Job description

Summary The purpose of this position is to oversee the operation of the Beyond the Bell (BTB) program. Duties include, but are not limited to, interviewing, training, and supervising after school counselors. This position acts under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.

Essential Functions The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Plan, organize, and direct the BTB program. To include planning and execution of daily activities. Contribute to each child's physical, intellectual, personal, and social development.

Develop a rapport and communicate effectively with participants, parents, and school staff to maintain order and safety at the program site. Assist in the selection and evaluation of all BTB staff. Brings to the attention of their supervisor any disciplinary issues of the BTB staff.

Maintain an adequate level of supplies at the Beyond the Bell site. Maintain and submit program records including, but not limited to, attendance reports, accident reports, participant forms, parent letters, staff schedules, verify accuracy of timesheets. Facilitate pre-season staff training, staff meetings, and in-service training.

Enforce all BTB rules and regulations. Minimum Required Qualifications Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions High school diploma or equivalent and after school care experience. Must have a valid driver's license and a minimum of two years clean driving record.

Complete the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Training for Mandated Reporters. Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain this certification prior to first day of program operations. Physical and Work Environment Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs while performing movements requiring skill and training.

Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include climbing stairs, walking, crouching, crawling, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks. Must be able to physically lead activities and fieldtrips.

Environmental Adaptability Ability to work under generally safe conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as sunlight, rain, cloudiness, heat, cold, and wind may cause some discomfort. Ability to work independently and complete daily activities under little supervision. Ability to work, at times, with angry or irate individuals.
