Position Type: Locum-to-Perm Physician OB/GYN

Overview

Well-established OB/GYN practice in Richmond, Virginia seeking a Locum-to-Perm OB/GYN Physician to provide coverage during a physician medical leave. This opportunity offers a balanced mix of office-based care, hospital call, and procedural work with strong clinical and midwife support.

Practice Highlights
  • Office and hospital-based OB/GYN practice

  • Coverage dates: May 1, 2026 August 31, 2026

  • Reason for coverage: Physician on medical leave

  • scheduled patients per day

  • 4 physicians in practice (1 on leave) and 5 midwives

  • One-on-one clinical support per provider (CMA, LPN, RN)

  • 3 exam rooms per provider

  • Onsite lab and ultrasound available

  • NICU Level III

  • Trauma Level II

  • EMR: Epic (EPC)

Candidate Requirements
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in OB/GYN REQUIRED

  • Active Virginia license (or willingness to obtain) REQUIRED

  • Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days REQUIRED

  • BLS and ACLS REQUIRED

  • Provider must be local (mileage reimbursement only) REQUIRED

  • Provider must state travel origin at time of name clear REQUIRED

Schedule & Coverage
  • Office hours: 8:00 AM 4:00 PM

  • 24-hour call coverage (weekdays included with office schedule)

  • Call schedule managed via Perfect Serve

  • Call ratio: 1 in 4

  • Estimated credentialing timeframe: 120 days after approved submission

Clinical Scope & Required Procedures

Obstetrics:

  • Low-risk pregnancy management (90%)

  • High-risk pregnancy care (10%)

  • FHR interpretation (NST, CST, FSE)

  • OB ultrasound performance and interpretation

  • Level I/screening ultrasounds (viability)

  • Seasoned ultrasound techs perform scans for provider reads

Labor & Delivery:

  • Routine vaginal deliveries

  • Low forceps deliveries

  • C-section decision-making and performance

  • Complicated deliveries (breech, multiples, abruptions)

  • VBACs

  • Repair of 3rd and 4th degree lacerations

  • C-section rate: approximately 10%

Gynecology:

  • Office/minor GYN procedures: IUDs, cystoscopy, colposcopy, cryosurgery, LEEP

  • Surgical GYN (open/laparoscopic diagnostic/minor): tubal ligation, LOAs, chromal tubation

  • Operative/major procedures: ectopic pregnancy, ovary removal, cystectomy, extensive LOAs

  • Average GYN surgeries per day: 1 4 (provider preference)
