We are looking for a Senior Geophysicist to provide scientific and engineering support to the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), located on Patrick SFB, FL. AFTAC's vital mission is to operate and maintain the U.S. Atomic Energy Detection System (USAEDS) to monitor compliance with nuclear treaties and detect nuclear explosions underground, underwater, in the atmosphere, and in space. ***Must be a US Citizen*** ***Must have a fully adjudicated (not an interim) Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility*** Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Apply advanced geophysical and seismological principles to directly support AFTAC's global nuclear explosion monitoring mission.
* Analyze complex waveform data from seismic, hydroacoustic, and infrasound networks to detect, locate, and characterize potential nuclear events.
* Develop, evaluate, and implement advanced methodologies to lower event detection thresholds and improve discrimination between natural geophysical activity (e.g., earthquakes) and artificial explosions.
* Collaborate with government scientists, analysts, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive technical reports, scientific briefings, and analytical tools that support nuclear treaty monitoring objectives. EDUCATION: * Ph.D. in Geophysics, OR a Master's degree in Geophysics (or a related discipline) with professional experience equivalent to a Ph.D. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience performing tasks related to global geophysical monitoring, seismology, or infrasound/acoustic analysis.
* Proven track record of integrating existing prototype scientific products into operational mission capabilities.
* Experience utilizing machine learning techniques for signal detection, event association, and/or event discrimination.
* Experience in software development utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs).
* Advanced competency in mathematics, physics, and/or statistics, alongside a strong scientific background in wave propagation and geophysical signal analysis.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to successfully collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and military personnel.
