About the role

The Application Engineer develops technical proposals for projects including proposing modifications to the standard design and configures the using design and costing tools. Works independently and develops technical responses to the customer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Applies in-depth knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
  • Screens customer's inquiries to ensure they contain all information required to submit a quotation.
  • Liaises with sales /customers to obtain any missing information.
  • Collects, understands, and interprets customer's requirements for new and/or operating data from customer's existing systems
  • Development of the technical proposal/quotation, including equipment description and specifications, and reviews and negotiates necessary technical revisions with the customer.
  • Responds to questions and inquiries from the customer regarding technical problems and issues that arise and provides related technical support or assistance, in a timely manner.
  • Upon customer order, reviews/approves the scope of supply and creates job file per Sulzer specifications.
  • Understands and provides solutions to large and/or complex problems
  • Requires independent judgement, initiative and sound decision making

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  • Meets with customers on-site, as required, to review specifications and requirements, present and discuss the company's proposal, and participate in project initiation as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience in technical sales work with an understanding of how to interpret customer's technical requirements
  • Basic understanding of unit operations and wastewater analysis
  • Conceptual system aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated and takes initiatives
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Open to learning

TRAVEL: This position will not require regular business travel but may be required to visit customers onsite as needed.
