Interim, In-House Attorney - Employment & Commercial Litigation job at Major, Lindsey & Africa. Coral Gables, FL.

Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is seeking a Contract-to-Hire Senior Director – Labor, Employment & Commercial Litigation.

Overview

We are seeking a senior level attorney to serve as a Senior Director of Labor, Employment and Commercial Litigation on a contract-to-hire basis.

Company: Publicly traded agricultural company

Experience: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience handling labor & employment and commercial litigation within an in-house legal department or at a reputable law firm.

Location: Coral Gables, FL

Responsibilities
  • Provides legal advice and guidance for employment and labor law issues, including:
  • The legal standards for taking adverse and performance-based actions.
  • Laws regarding discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination, wage & hour law; employee.
  • Issues relating to labor relations, unions, collective bargaining agreements and negotiations.
  • Workplace safety including developing preventative measures, legal advice relating to worksite inspections, negotiating and contesting citations, handling claims of retaliation and grievances.
  • Counseling and advice on preventative measures and best practices to ensure compliance with employment laws and reduce the risk of litigation.
  • Employment policies, including employee handbook and policies relating to the administration of leave.
  • Employee compensation and benefits matters, including retirement plans.
  • Employment contracts.
  • Global mobility programs and the challenges affecting the movement of people capital domestically and internationally, including secondment agreements, benefits transferability, local host country employment concerns and immigration.
  • Labor and employment litigation working with external counsel.
Qualifications
  • JD and active member of any state bar. Minimum of 7 years of experience at a reputable law firm and/or in-house.
  • Combination of general investigations, commercial litigation and labor and employment litigation experience.
  • Experience with California Labor & Employment laws highly preferred.
  • Experience selecting and managing outside counsel as appropriate, effectively evaluating the quality and cost of services of outside counsel.
  • Ability to work with several teams across the organization.
