What is an affiliate program?

An affiliate program is a marketing arrangement where a business rewards external partners, known as affiliates, for generating traffic or sales through the affiliate's marketing efforts. Affiliates promote the company's products or services using special tracking links and earn a commission for each sale, lead, or specific action completed by referred customers. This model benefits both the business, which gains more exposure and sales, and the affiliate, who earns passive income. Affiliate programs are common in e-commerce and online services because they offer a cost-effective way to expand market reach.

What is an affiliate program job?

In e-commerce, an affiliate program is a marketing tool utilized by a marketing and ad agency or a specific brand to improve sales of services and products. The goal is for account executives or marketing specialists to develop relationships with external affiliates, such as websites that sell ad space, bloggers, and social media influencers. Your responsibilities as an affiliate or representative are to leverage their networks to drive traffic to a retailer or online merchant and build awareness of the brand. The e-commerce merchant then pays you a commission based on sales attributable to your effort, which is tracked by link clicks or referral codes. You can also work on the administrative side of an affiliate program for a marketing or ad tech agency or retailer.

What are the typical responsibilities of an affiliate program manager, and how do they collaborate with other departments?

Professionals managing an affiliate program are responsible for recruiting and onboarding new affiliates, monitoring affiliate performance, optimizing program strategies, and ensuring timely payouts. They frequently collaborate with marketing teams to align promotional campaigns, with legal teams to ensure compliance, and with finance to track commissions. Regular communication with affiliates is also key to fostering strong partnerships and achieving program goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an affiliate program manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Affiliate Program Manager, you need a strong understanding of digital marketing, partnership management, and data analysis, usually supported by experience in affiliate or performance marketing. Familiarity with affiliate tracking platforms (such as Impact, CJ Affiliate, or Rakuten), CRM systems, and analytics tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills help you recruit and support affiliates while driving program growth. These skills ensure effective management of partnerships, optimization of campaigns, and achievement of revenue goals for the organization.

Job description

About the Role

We are hiring an Affiliate Marketing Manager to own Truemed’s affiliate program — a distinct, opt-in merchant program that complements the Truemed merchant experience.

This is an operator role inside Marketing. You'll own the program's economics, platform operations across partner affiliate networks (Impact, UpPromote, CJ, Everflow), program reporting (revenue, enrollment, deliverable fulfillment), and the value narrative that positions the affiliate program to prospective members. You'll work with our Partner Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, Sales, and Merchant Success teams, who execute the deliverables and run the commercial conversations this role supports.

Why This Role Matters

Truemed’s marketplace sends meaningful, high-intent HSA/FSA traffic to merchant partners like Peloton, NOBULL, REP Fitness, and dozens of other leading health and wellness brands. Today, that demand generation happens organically. This role will turn this into a structured affiliate program where merchants agree to formalized terms in exchange for comarketing commitments and support from Truemed.

The Affiliate Marketing Manager will own the affiliate program end-to-end. You will consolidate Truemed’s affiliate footprint across platforms and channels into a single operating model. You’ll refine and scale our merchant framework and build a scalable program that turns Truemed’s marketing efforts into a revenue driving asset. This role directly impacts Truemed’s revenue diversification and strengthens the strategic value of every merchant relationship.

What You’ll Do Program Operations
  • Own the Truemed Affiliate Program end-to-end: membership operations, tracking setup, commission structure, payout operations, and ongoing program management across multiple affiliate networks

  • Define and maintain the program's commission structure and member benefits — what affiliate members pay, what they receive, and the economics that make it work for both the merchant and Truemed

  • Partner with Finance to structure payment flows, invoicing, and revenue recognition for affiliate-sourced transactions across all networks

Deliverables Fulfillment
  • Maintain and evolve the standard set of deliverables offered at each enrollment level

  • Serve as the single point of truth for each affiliate member's deliverable schedule — briefing affiliate-specific asks into Partner Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, and other execution teams, and confirming everything lands

  • Maintain the affiliate program's marketing inventory: the full list of deliverables available to members, their quality standards, and their capacity constraints

Program Growth & Reporting
  • Build and maintain the value story and ROI case for the affiliate program both internally and externally

  • Act as the affiliate program's subject matter expert in merchant conversations e.g. presenting inventory, explaining economics, and walking merchants through what they unlock by opting in

  • Deliver quarterly affiliate-member reporting so every member sees the data that justifies their investment

  • Own program-level reporting: member count, enrollment pipeline, affiliate-attributed revenue, deliverable fulfillment rate, and churn from the program

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success means:

  • The Truemed Affiliate Program runs on a single, documented operating model with clear membership economics, deliverable standards, and tracking across every affiliate network

  • A growing number of merchants are opted into the affiliate program, with tracking, commissions, and deliverable schedules confirmed across our platform stack

  • Affiliate-attributed revenue becomes a measurable and growing line item, reported consistently and reconciled cleanly across networks

  • Every affiliate member receives their agreed-upon deliverables, on spec and on time

  • Merchant partners view the affiliate program as a fair value exchange because the data clearly shows what Truemed drives for their business

  • Sales, Merchant Success, and Partner Marketing have current, data-backed value materials that make the affiliate conversation easier

  • Leadership has clear visibility into the affiliate pipeline, enrollment progress, and program revenue through reliable reporting

Who You Are
  • Operationally rigorous — you build systems, playbooks, and calendars that keep a multi-platform, multi-member program clean

  • Data-driven — you lead with numbers and can translate transaction data into compelling value stories, program economics, and member reporting

  • A self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and is comfortable building a program from scratch

  • An excellent communicator and subject matter expert — you can present a program's inventory and value prop directly to merchant marketing teams without it being a sales pitch

  • Energized by cross-functional collaboration — you get more done by briefing Partner Marketing, Lifecycle, Sales, Analytics and Merchant Success than by doing everything yourself

  • Passionate about health and wellness, and genuinely interested in Truemed's merchant ecosystem

Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years in affiliate marketing, partner marketing, or affiliate program management — ideally e-commerce, DTC, marketplace, or health/wellness

  • Proven experience operating affiliate programs end-to-end: platform setup, tracking, merchant or publisher onboarding, commission structure, reporting, and payout operations

  • Hands-on experience with affiliate platforms (Impact, CJ, UpPromote, Everflow, Partnerize, ShareASale, or similar)

  • Experience presenting program inventory and value stories to brand marketing teams as a subject matter expert (not a quota-carrying sales role)

  • Strong analytical skills: comfortable with traffic, conversion, and transaction data to inform program decisions and member reporting

  • Understanding of e-commerce KPIs: AOV, conversion rate, customer LTV, margin contribution

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present data-driven recommendations to merchant teams and internal stakeholders

Preferred
  • Experience in health and wellness, fitness, nutrition, or supplement verticals

  • Background in marketplace businesses where you’ve monetized demand or traffic contribution through partner deals

  • Experience in fintech, healthtech, or regulated/compliance-driven workflows (HSA/FSA experience is a strong plus)

  • SQL or BI tool experience (Looker, Tableau, Omni) for deeper performance analysis is a nice to have

  • Familiarity with comarketing, trade marketing, or D2C media models

  • Experience with lifecycle marketing programs (Klaviyo or similar)
