Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Technical Writer

Location: Hill AFB, UT | Full-Time | Salary: $60,000 – $77,000 annually

Position Overview

ELB is seeking an experienced FMS Technical Writer to support Mission Planning systems for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs. This role is responsible for producing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation that directly supports system implementation, sustainment, and operational use.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in technical writing within a military or aerospace environment, combined with the ability to validate documentation against real-world system configurations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring documentation accuracy, usability, and compliance in support of international mission partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation supporting Mission Planning systems, including system guides, operational instructions, and configuration documentation
  • Validate documentation through direct system interaction to ensure accuracy against live and fielded configurations
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between documentation and system behavior or fielded environments
  • Ensure documentation meets applicable standards, compliance requirements, and program expectations
  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, testers, and program personnel to ensure technical accuracy and consistency
  • Maintain version control and configuration integrity across all documentation
  • Ensure documentation is clear, usable, and aligned with operational requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation in a military, defense, or aerospace environment
  • Familiarity with Technical Orders (TOs), system documentation, or similar structured formats
  • Ability to validate technical procedures through hands-on interaction with systems or software
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments with technical teams
  • Familiarity with FMS programs, ITAR, or Foreign Disclosure processes
  • Proficiency with technical authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting USAF Mission Planning systems or similar operational systems
  • Experience supporting system deployment, configuration, or sustainment activities
  • Background in documentation quality assurance or configuration management
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve inconsistencies or technical gaps
