What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aerospace Material Handler, and why are they important?

To excel as an Aerospace Material Handler, you generally need knowledge of inventory management, material handling procedures, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and possibly forklift certification is often required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of aerospace materials, directly impacting production timelines and safety standards.

Do you need a license to be a material handler?

Aerospace material handlers typically do not need a specific license to perform their duties, but they often require safety training such as OSHA certifications and may need to operate equipment like forklifts, which require a valid license. Employers may also prefer candidates with relevant certifications or experience in handling aerospace materials and working in controlled environments.

What does an Aerospace Material Handler do?

An Aerospace Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials and parts used in the manufacturing and maintenance of aircraft and aerospace components. They ensure that materials are properly labeled, organized, and tracked through inventory systems to maintain efficient production operations. Material Handlers often work closely with warehouse teams and production staff to deliver necessary parts on time, while also adhering to strict safety and quality standards due to the sensitive nature of aerospace materials.
