This is an exciting leadership opportunity for someone who thrives on building high-performing teams, shaping strategy, and making a real impact on innovative, multidisciplinary projects.

You’ll take the lead on major pursuits, manage and expand a talented engineering team, and work directly with high-profile clients — including local, state, and federal agencies.

Why Join Us?

  • Leadership role — Build and lead your own team.
  • Work that matters — Design systems for complex, high-impact infrastructure.
  • Growth and visibility — Drive strategy, win major work, and grow with us.
  • Collaboration — Partner with leading experts across architecture and engineering disciplines.
  • Innovation — Help deliver projects that focus on innovation, efficiency, and energy performance.

The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Lead and manage AECOM’s engineering operations in Tampa, with an emphasis on team growth and performance.
  • Manage forecasting, resource planning, and staff performance, including goal-setting and annual reviews for the mechanical department and other engineering managers. Assist the other building engineering discipline managers to do the same.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to build a thriving local engineering team.
  • Guide team members in their work, assigning tasks and supporting their professional development.
  • Drive major project pursuits — both stand-alone MEP/FP work and as part of larger multi-discipline teams.
  • Represent AECOM to clients, participate in interviews, and help craft winning proposals.
  • Collaborate with other AECOM offices, regional engineering leads, and business lines to optimize project staffing and delivery.
  • Act as technical leader and quality reviewer, ensuring consistent, high-caliber output.
  • Serve as design manager on complex projects with significant engineering scope, working closely with project managers to deliver high-quality documents.
  • Lead interdisciplinary quality reviews and ensure engineering standards are met.
  • Stay current with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in high-performance design.
  • Provides people and P&L leadership for their department, division or client engagement.
  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with senior- level engineers within the company and with key engineering officials of other organizations and companies and is skilled in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
  • At this level, individuals will have demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus 8 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 3 years of team leadership
  • PE license, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional U.S. states.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 years of engineering experience on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • 5+ years in an engineering lead or design management role.
  • Mechanical engineer but all disciplines considered.
  • Experience with federal sector projects.
  • Experience with sustainable and high-performance building design.
