Job description

Day Camp Adventure & Transportation Coordinator
The Adventure and Transportation Coordinator will be an integral part of our Summer Enrichment Team who are responsible for providing free, fun, summer daytime activities to youth who live in our partner communities. DREAM believes that every child deserves the opportunity to experience new and exciting adventures! In this position you would be required to plan our summertime adventure activities (off-site field trips) as well as safely transport our DREAM youth to and from these trips. This position would require you to drive youth from each of our sites (8 sites with 15-30 kids per site) on their respective trip days throughout the week. Trips can consist of local adventures within the city of Philadelphia or adventures in neighboring cities/states. There are also times when we may need an additional person on hand for programming. If there are times when driving and field trip support isn't needed, you will be supporting on-site programs.
The DREAM Program is committed to dismantling systems of oppression that affect our youth and families. This organizational commitment means that members should join this space with an intention of learning, unlearning, and diving into ways that your involvement will directly contribute to DREAM's mission of reducing the Opportunity Gap while also supporting the dismantling of other systemic inequities. We seek members who contribute to
The DREAM Program's diverse community, as having different perspectives, identities, and skills are what allow us to excel in our service. DREAM seeks members who are ready to engage in and foster an inclusive environment, and who strive to deliver culturally appropriate and relevant programming to the youth we serve. Incoming members and staff should understand that we serve marginalized communities, which means that it is imperative that diversity, equity, and inclusivity are infused into every aspect of our work as an organization.
Objectives of Service as a Summer Camp Driver and Field Trip Support:
  • You will be responsible for planning adventure-based field trips for all sites throughout the summer. This planning will include site research, supply acquisition, food planning, transportation itinerary, and risk assessments.
  • You will attend and lead all off-site field trips with each Philadelphia site.
  • You will safely transport youth to and from adventures while practicing safe driving habits, using DREAM's available vans.
  • You will be a resource of support for local Philly DREAM site-based programming when no program sites are on a field trip but additional help at local programming is needed.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating upkeep and maintenance of DREAM's transportation vehicles as necessary.
  • You will plan travel and activity schedules that make adventure trips and extraordinary experiences more accessible to our mentees and staff.
  • Provide youth with magical, memorable, enriching experiences in the summer in an outdoors environment.

The Experience of Service as a Summer Camp Driver and Field Trip Support:
  • You will be responsible for planning and coordinating adventure activities for summer camp participants.
  • You will be a part of our Summer Enrichment team, and be required to frequently collaborate with and coordinate responsibilities with the Philadelphia leadership team and Summer Enrichment Coordinators who serve at each site.
  • You will be engaging with youth aged 5-17 throughout their summer programming and serving as a role model to them.
  • You will regularly be driving in a sprinter van on small city streets, busy highways, and residential areas.
  • It's always possible that youth may have questions or cause additional distractions while driving, and so we appreciate your ability to remain calm and level headed throughout the entirety of the trip!
  • Your weeks will include planning days on Monday, and working directly with youth in the program on Tuesday-Friday.
  • This position occurs from June 2nd-August 11th, 2025. You will be required to meet a minimum of 300 service hours by serving 35-45 hours per week.

Required Qualifications:
  • A driver's license, a clean driving record, and a minimum 2 years of driving experience (must have had a driver's license for 2 years).
  • Willingness to be trained to drive our organization's 15 passenger van and comfort driving in Philadelphia
  • To be an AmeriCorps member you MUST be 17 years or older, and be a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien.
  • Excitement and passion around working with youth.
  • Commitment to the entire service term (June 2nd-August 11th, 2025).
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills with a focus on direct communication.
  • Ability to remain focused and calm in an excitable environment.
  • Commitment to the mission of AmeriCorps and DREAM.
  • Desire to enhance existing skills and develop new skills necessary for service.
  • Commitment to serve as a role model for youth.
  • Elevated awareness of issues of social equity and social justice with a commitment to continued learning as it relates to serving your diverse communities in a manner that is respectful and aware.
  • A dedicated space to complete components of service that is not at a DREAM-supported site (i.e. responding to emails, researching activities, etc.)
  • Ability to regularly meet in person with your team or your service assignment in their assigned location (including responsibility for transportation to and from).
  • Access to a reliable phone.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and set priorities while giving consideration to those serving, your fellow team members, the organization, and the self.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to focus on driving and ensuring the safety of the youth while behind the wheel with the potential for distractions.
  • Safe and skilled driving habits.
  • Previous experience in settings with high levels of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Previous youth work experience or motivations/preference for a career in youth services.
  • Comfort and excitement around working in an outdoor environment in the summertime.
  • Previous experience managing and balancing priorities within a project's budget.
  • Creativity, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • A contagious and optimistic energy for DREAM's work.
  • Willingness to obtain a lifeguard certification (sponsored by DREAM), or previously established lifeguard certification by the time summer sessions begin.
  • First aid and CPR certification by the time summer sessions begin. (If not currently certified, DREAM will offer opportunities for certification during our summer orientation.)

Compensation and Term:
  • Dates of service: June 2 -August 11, 2025
  • 35-40 hours per week, 300 total service hours.
  • $750 biweekly, $4,500 total (6 pay periods)
    • These are PRE-TAX amounts.
  • Upon completion of dates and total hours, you will receive an education award of $1,565.08 (pre-tax).
