Job description

Job Title: Control Engineer III

Key Details

  • Contract Duration: 6-month contract

  • Work Schedule: Regular Monday–Friday business hours
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 40% domestic travel
  • Primary Work Areas Supported: Midland / West Texas and Mont Belvieu, TX
  • Pay Rate: $90 – $115 per hour

Job Summary

The Control Engineer III provides technical expertise and hands-on support for control system projects, including installation, commissioning, and startup activities. This role supports projects primarily in the Midland/West Texas and Mont Belvieu areas while being based onsite at the downtown Houston office. The position requires strong independent work capability, effective communication with stakeholders, and extensive experience with legacy and modern control systems in processing plant environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support control system projects including installation, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Implement new control system templates and configurations.
  • Work independently while coordinating with internal stakeholders and external contractors.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and oversee contractor support as required.
  • Develop, review, and maintain control system documentation in accordance with industry standards.
  • Support troubleshooting, loop tuning, and system optimization activities.
  • Participate in on-call support as required.

Qualifications

  • Education / Experience:
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering OR a minimum of 10 years of controls-related experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience implementing process control systems in processing plant environments.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive knowledge of legacy PLC and HMI platforms, including programming methods, configurations, and process functionality.
    • Strong understanding of industry standards for documentation, regulatory and discrete control, loop tuning, safety systems, and PLC configuration.
    • Experience reading and developing process, electrical, and instrumentation drawings; Cause and Effect diagrams; specifications; and control narratives.
    • Hands-on configuration experience with multiple HMI and PLC platforms.
    • Proficiency with function block and ladder logic programming.
    • Working experience with Allen‐Bradley PLCs.
  • Physical & Work Requirements:
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
    • Ability to climb ladders.
    • Ability to travel up to 40% domestically.
    • Availability for on-call support as required.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with operations personnel and contractors at all organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Honeywell Experion DCS.
  • Configuration experience with Triconex Safety Systems.
  • Experience supporting control systems in oil & gas or chemical processing environments.
