The Role/What You'll Do:

The Senior Director, Advanced Planning will oversee the day-to-day management and operations of AssetMark's Advanced Planning team, including professionals specializing in wealth strategy, estate planning, and comprehensive financial planning. This leader will partner closely with the SVP Wealth Services, advisors, and internal stakeholders to deliver sophisticated planning solutions while enhancing operational efficiency and team effectiveness.

This role is highly visible internally and externally and includes presenting to advisors and clients through meetings, conferences, webinars, and educational events.

This is a full-time position in our Charlotte, NC office with a hybrid work schedule.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of advanced planning professionals, including Wealth Strategists and Senior Financial Planners
  • Serve as a player/coach by directly participating in complex advisor and client engagements involving estate planning, tax mitigation, wealth transfer, retirement planning, business succession, and multi-generational wealth strategies
  • Execute and continuously evolve the Advanced Planning strategy in alignment with organizational priorities and advisor needs
  • Oversee daily operations of the Advanced Planning team, ensuring high-quality deliverables, efficient workflows, and exceptional advisor experiences
  • Drive operational efficiency through process improvement, technology adoption, resource allocation, and workflow optimization
  • Partner with advisors and their HNW/UHNW clients to deliver customized and sophisticated planning strategies
  • Present complex planning concepts in a clear, practical, and engaging manner to advisors and clients
  • Deliver presentations at conferences, advisor meetings, webinars, and client events
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Consulting, Technology, Compliance, and Marketing teams to enhance planning capabilities and advisor engagement
  • Establish best practices, quality standards, and consistent planning methodologies across the team
  • Mentor and support team members through case consultation, training, and ongoing professional development
  • Utilize planning technology and analytics tools to create scalable and engaging client experiences
  • Support business growth initiatives by helping advisors deepen client relationships and uncover new opportunities
  • Travel approximately 25% for advisor meetings, conferences, team collaboration, and client presentations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep expertise in estate planning, tax planning, retirement income planning, business succession, and wealth transfer strategies
  • Significant experience working with HNW and UHNW clients and financial advisors
  • Proven ability to lead teams while remaining hands-on in client engagements
  • Strong operational mindset with experience improving team processes, workflows, and scalability
  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to simplify complex financial and estate planning concepts for both advisors and clients
  • Proficiency with financial planning technology and CRM platforms, including tools such as eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, Holistiplan, Salesforce, and related systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 12+ years of experience in advanced financial planning, wealth strategy, estate planning, or related HNW/UHNW advisory work
  • 5+ years of leadership or people management experience preferred
  • Active CFP certification required
  • Additional advanced designation strongly preferred (JD, CPA, MBA, MST, CEPA, CAP, or similar)

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $220,000-$250,000.

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
