Position: Advanced Planning Consultant
Department: High Net Worth Planning
Reporting to: President of Advisor Development
Location: Topeka, KS/ Lenexa, KS - Onsite, open to hybrid or remote
Overview:
As an Advanced Planning Consultant, you’ll serve as a trusted financial planning resource to Advisors Excel’s network of independent financial advisors, helping them navigate complex planning opportunities for their high-net-worth clients. You’ll evaluate client goals and financial circumstances and develop holistic strategies that may incorporate investments, taxation, estate planning, retirement, insurance, and risk management.
This is a highly consultative role where your expertise will help advisors think through sophisticated client situations, identify planning opportunities, and confidently communicate solutions. You’ll work alongside advisors, clients, and internal and external professionals while continuing to grow your expertise in advanced wealth planning.
What you’ll do:
  • Consult with independent financial advisors on complex high-net-worth client situations, providing advanced financial planning guidance and strategic recommendations.
  • Develop holistic planning strategies that integrate investment, tax, estate, retirement, insurance, and risk management considerations.
  • Analyze client financial information, goals, and circumstances to identify planning opportunities, potential risks, and solutions.
  • Evaluate complex financial planning strategies and develop recommendations aligned with the client's goals and overall wealth plan.
  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to advisors by asking insightful questions and identifying opportunities beyond the initial request.
  • Explain complex financial, tax, estate, and wealth planning concepts clearly to advisors and, when appropriate, directly to high-net-worth clients.
  • Prepare financial projections, illustrations, analyses, and other planning materials to demonstrate advanced planning strategies, including certain trust and estate planning techniques.
  • Present advanced planning concepts and strategies during virtual and in-person advisor and high-net-worth client meetings.
  • Collaborate with marketing, legal, compliance, tax, estate planning, insurance, investment, and other professionals to develop comprehensive solutions for complex client needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with financial advisors and other professionals through responsive, knowledgeable, and consultative support.
  • Manage multiple complex high-net-worth planning cases simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and responsiveness.
  • Stay current on tax law, estate planning strategies, investment strategies, insurance products, and other developments impacting high-net-worth financial planning.
Experience you’ll bring:
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning, wealth management, investment management, insurance, advanced planning, or a related financial-services field.
  • Broad knowledge of taxation, estate planning, investments, retirement planning, and insurance.
  • Experience analyzing financial information and applying financial planning concepts to complex client situations.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify issues, opportunities, and practical solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to advisors and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with advisors, clients, and internal business partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex cases, exercise sound judgment, and work independently when navigating ambiguity or incomplete information.
Bonus Points:
  • Professional designation or advanced credentials such as CFP®, CIMA®, ChFC®, CLU®, CTFA, CPA, EA, or JD.
  • Experience providing advanced or wealth planning support to high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth clients.
  • Experience working directly with financial advisors or other financial professionals in a consultative, educational, or planning capacity.
  • Willingness to obtain the Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA®) designation within one year of employment, with financial support provided by Advisors Excel.
