Job description

Summary:
The Principal Product Quality Engineer is a senior technical quality leader responsible for defining and driving the quality strategy for ADT's Monitoring as a Service (MaaS) platform. This role owns end-to-end verification strategy for mission-critical workflows spanning cloud services, APIs, microservices, partner integrations, monitoring center operations, mobile applications, customer-facing products, and operational readiness processes. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on quality engineering expertise, systems thinking, automation leadership, and cross-functional influence to ensure the monitoring platform is reliable, scalable, compliant, and ready for real-world operational use.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Principal-Level Quality Strategy & Technical Leadership
  • Define the end-to-end product quality strategy for the monitoring platform, including quality objectives, verification standards, risk-based test coverage, and release readiness expectations.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for platform quality across distributed systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, partner integrations, monitoring center workflows, and customer-facing experiences.
  • Influence architecture, product, and engineering decisions by identifying quality risks early and translating them into actionable technical guidance.
  • Establish scalable quality practices that are adopted across multiple engineering teams and product domains.
End-to-End Platform Verification
  • Own quality validation across the complete monitoring platform lifecycle, including onboarding, account creation, event processing, escalation workflows, dispatch, deactivation, and operational handoffs.
  • Develop comprehensive test strategies that validate customer journeys across services, APIs, data pipelines, mobile applications, web applications, and monitoring center workflows.
  • Validate integrations with internal systems, monitoring platforms, third-party partners, and external service providers.
  • Ensure platform capabilities meet business, operational, compliance, security, reliability, and scalability requirements.
Technical Specification & Test Architecture
  • Author and review detailed technical test specifications, verification plans, risk assessments, and release readiness criteria for new platform capabilities.
  • Translate product requirements, architecture designs, workflow diagrams, and operational requirements into comprehensive quality coverage.
  • Identify functional, operational, reliability, performance, compliance, and edge-case scenarios before development is complete.
  • Create reusable test design patterns, quality frameworks, and documentation standards that improve consistency across teams.
Automation Engineering & Quality Infrastructure
  • Design, develop, and guide automated testing approaches for APIs, microservices, integrations, workflows, data pipelines, and user interfaces.
  • Build and mature scalable automation frameworks supporting functional, integration, contract, end-to-end, regression, performance, resilience, and smoke testing.
  • Develop reusable tools and utilities that increase testing efficiency, repeatability, observability, and coverage.
  • Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to establish automated quality gates within CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Mentorship
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product Management, Architecture, Monitoring Operations, DevOps, Support, Security, Compliance, and external partners.
  • Lead test readiness reviews, quality reviews, release risk assessments, and operational readiness discussions.
  • Mentor engineers and quality practitioners on automation design, test strategy, system validation, and risk-based quality practices.
  • Champion a culture where quality is built into the development lifecycle and validated continuously rather than inspected only at the end.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Deep expertise in software quality engineering, product quality engineering, test architecture, and modern verification practices.
  • Strong ability to validate distributed systems, cloud-native platforms, APIs, microservices, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on technical ability to write automated tests, build frameworks, develop utilities, analyze logs, and troubleshoot complex system behavior.
  • Strong judgment in balancing automation, exploratory testing, operational validation, risk management, and release readiness.
  • Ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority through clear communication, data, risk analysis, and trusted technical leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create technical specifications, test plans, quality reports, and executive-ready summaries.
  • High accountability, strong ownership mindset, customer focus, and comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving, mission-critical environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in Software Quality Engineering, Product Quality Engineering, Software Development, Test Architecture, Platform Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience validating cloud-based platforms, APIs, distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and complex integration workflows.
  • Experience designing and implementing automated testing solutions, frameworks, tools, or shared quality infrastructure.
  • Experience authoring technical specifications, test strategies, verification plans, acceptance criteria, and release readiness standards.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and driving corrective actions across engineering teams.
  • Experience working within Agile software delivery lifecycle processes and CI/CD-driven release environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting monitoring, security, safety, alarm, telecommunications, IoT, or other mission-critical platforms.
  • Experience testing REST APIs, asynchronous systems, event streaming, message queues, integrations, and data pipelines.
  • Experience with Postman, Playwright, Cypress, Vitest, Selenium, JMeter, k6, Gatling, or similar testing and reliability tools.
  • Experience programming in JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python, or comparable languages.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Kubernetes, containers, observability tools, and cloud deployment practices.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment workflows, quality gates, test environments, and release automation.
  • Experience working in regulated, compliance-driven, or high-availability operational environments.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical quality initiatives across multiple product teams.
Required Licensing or Certifications:
  • Relevant certifications in Quality Engineering, Cloud Technologies, Agile Practices, Security, Reliability Engineering, or Software Development are preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Hybrid work environment with a combination of office and remote work.
  • Frequent collaboration with cross-functional technical, operational, compliance, and partner teams.
  • Work may involve production, pre-production, and mission-critical monitoring platform environments.
  • May require occasional participation in incident reviews, release readiness activities, operational validation exercises, or partner support discussions.
Travel:
  • Limited travel may be required for team collaboration, planning sessions, partner engagements, operational readiness activities, or business needs.
