ADP is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead the U.S. Money Movement organization.
This leader will oversee a global team of approximately 80+ engineers responsible for the development, modernization, resiliency, and production health of platforms supporting the collection and disbursement of funds for ADP clients, employees, agencies, and third parties. The role combines engineering leadership, platform ownership, operational accountability, and cross-functional partnership. The successful candidate must be able to lead a mission-critical technology organization while balancing platform stability, modernization, product delivery, risk management, and client commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering leadership
  • Lead, develop, and scale a globally distributed organization of approximately 80+ engineers.
  • Build a strong leadership bench across engineering management, architecture, data, DevOps, and production support.
  • Establish clear priorities, accountability, and operating rhythms across multiple teams.
  • Attract, retain, and develop high-performing technical and leadership talent.

Platform strategy and delivery
  • Own the engineering strategy and technology roadmap for U.S. Money Movement.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability of high-volume financial transaction platforms.
  • Continue modernizing the platform following its migration to AWS and upgrade to SAP S/4HANA, B/4HANA, HANA, and modern Linux infrastructure.
  • Reduce technical debt, simplify architecture, and modernize integrations.
  • Advance automation, observability, DevSecOps, data engineering, and software delivery practices.
  • Balance strategic transformation with near-term product and operational priorities.

Operational resiliency
  • Maintain end-to-end accountability for the production health of a Tier 1, mission-critical platform.
  • Strengthen resiliency, disaster recovery, monitoring, capacity management, and incident response.
  • Partner with Operations and business teams to meet payment-processing deadlines and client commitments.
  • Provide executive leadership during critical incidents and ensure root causes are addressed through durable corrective actions.
  • Use operational metrics and incident trends to drive continuous improvement.

Business, risk, and financial leadership
  • Partner with Product, Operations, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and business leaders.
  • Translate business priorities into a coherent technology strategy and investment roadmap.
  • Ensure engineering practices and controls meet financial, regulatory, security, audit, and enterprise-risk requirements.
  • Manage a significant technology portfolio, including labor, infrastructure, software licensing, vendors, consultants, and support contracts.
  • Communicate complex technical and operational matters clearly to executive and technical audiences.

Scope
The organization supports core money movement processing, SAP financial capabilities, data and analytics, bank connectivity, payment integrations, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, production support, reconciliation, and enterprise integrations.
The platform operates at substantial scale, supporting hundreds of thousands of clients, tens of millions of workers, and annual transaction flows measured in trillions of dollars.
This role will be based out of our San Dimas, CA location. We are working in a hybrid work environment, working out of the office 3 days a week with the opportunity of working from home the other 2 days.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, application development, or enterprise technology.
  • 8+ years leading engineering organizations, including managers and senior technical leaders.
  • Experience managing a large, globally distributed engineering organization.
  • Proven ownership of mission-critical, high-availability transaction platforms.
  • Experience leading major cloud migrations, platform modernizations, or architectural transformations.
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering, systems integration, data platforms, DevOps, and production operations.
  • Experience managing significant budgets, vendors, and technology investment portfolios.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through high-impact incidents and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong executive communication and cross-functional leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in payments, payroll, banking, treasury, or regulated financial systems.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA, HANA, or comparable enterprise financial platforms.
  • Experience operating large-scale applications in AWS.
  • Familiarity with ACH, wires, real-time payments, SWIFT, bank integrations, and reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of financial controls, cybersecurity, audit, compliance, and disaster recovery.

Leadership Profile
The successful candidate will:
  • Act as the owner of a critical business service.
  • Balance modernization with operational stability and disciplined execution.
  • Simplify complex technical and organizational problems.
  • Build strong teams while maintaining clear accountability.
  • Communicate transparently with executives, engineers, and business partners.
