Product Owner, Commerce Strategy & Platforms

Who we are looking for:

The Product Owner, Commerce Strategy & Platforms, will serve as the functional architect and operational lead driving the evolution of ASCO's Adobe Commerce (Magento) platform. Reporting to the Portfolio Leader, this role will act as the definitive customer advocate, ensuring our digital experience remains stable, scalable, and intuitive for a diverse global audience of B2C members and customers, B2B partners, and Foundation donors. This role is responsible for translating high-level expansion goals into a high-integrity roadmap, ensuring every enhancement leverages native Magento strength to deliver scalable business value.

Responsibilities

Product Management

  • Act as the voice of the customers and prioritize product backlog epics, features and stories based on ASCO's strategic objectives and committed PI objectives. Ensure the delivery squad's output remains aligned with Adobe Commerce best practices, favoring native configurations and standard integrations over custom code where possible.
  • Partner closely with business analysts to co-author high-quality epics, features, and stories, and hone the specific requirements and acceptance criteria with architects and engineering leads.
  • Maintain absolute data integrity across all work items (epics, features, and stories) by ensuring mandatory metadata, tags, and mapping are complete, enabling real-time accuracy for sprint and enterprise product roadmap reporting.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate product value and quality delivered to customers and proactively champion product improvements by staying current with Magento security patches, core updates, and performance benchmarks
  • Collaborate with other product owners and engineering leads to understand and prioritize technical debt across the enterprise, including coordination of dependent tasks across squads

Delivery Planning and Deployment

  • Responsible for meeting defined sprint goals; specifically resolving blockers, dependencies or technical and business challenges.
  • Actively participate in and prepare for squad ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint review, sprint retrospective), and portfolio-level events (quarterly planning, enterprise-level retrospective and innovation ceremonies, system demos).
  • Partner with portfolio leaders, product managers, and stakeholders to define ambitious Program Increment (PI) objectives and key results, establishing rigorous baseline metrics to quantitatively and qualitatively track and report on the business value delivered throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with the Portfolio Leader to prepare for quarterly planning events, including but not limited to; draft committed objectives, prepare decks, facilitate planning sessions, prepare sprint planning board, and prepare/participate in Inspect and Adapt ceremonies.
  • Collect, prepare and maintain the product backlog for quarterly Product Increment Planning, ensuring that all potential work within the Magento ecosystems well defined, understood by engineers, and contains estimated story points needed for discussion during the actual planning.
  • Contribute to the portfolio-level product roadmap by drafting and refining idea's in the lean business case format in the Jira product discovery board.
  • Contribute to release planning and coordinating with relevant teams, including marketing, to ensure successful product launches and iterations.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent years of experience
  • 5 –7 years of progressive experience in product ownership or digital product management.
  • 3+ years of experience managing complex e-commerce ecosystems, with a deep understanding of the Adobe Commerce (Magento) platform. Must demonstrate a "native-first" approach, prioritizing core configurations and standard integrations over custom code.
  • Proven experience managing complex checkout flows and multiple payment processor configurations.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing multi-quarter roadmaps, including feature prioritization, dependency mapping across squads, and timeline management.
  • Proven experience in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), Scrum, or Kanban methodologies.
  • Have a track record of leading squad ceremonies and partnering with portfolio leaders to define Program Increment (PI) objectives is a plus.
  • Exceptional ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and facilitate working sessions with "strong-willed" or high-level stakeholders to achieve alignment.
  • High proficiency with Jira, Jira Product Discovery, and Confluence for maintaining backlog integrity, metadata tagging, and real-time roadmap reporting.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Experience Cloud (AEM, Target) and a working knowledge of integrating AI/GenAI features for personalization and search optimization is a plus.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • SAFe product owner certification or PO certification from a recognized organization such as Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org a plus, 2+ years of experience delivering successful products to the market
  • Familiarity with other methodologies such as Kanban or Lean
  • Experience with SAAS, PAAS, mobile apps, back-office systems, hardware, and services and various product categories a plus
  • Ability to synthesize business needs and communicate requirements effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
