Position Overview

As an Administrative Support Assistant 3 in the Building and Construction division, you will work under the supervision of the Bureau Chief at our central office near Valley Junction in Des Moines, Iowa. You will work in the Environmental Health and Contractor Bureau to support the Contractor Registration program.

  • You will be an integral member of our team, providing administrative program assistance to the department in support of the agency’s operations by:

  • Provide customer assistance for permits, certifications, licensees and public.

  • Support the department strategic communications plan.

  • Develop outreach and communications social media strategies and content.

  • Communication with professional boards.

  • Writing, designing, and editing program manuals, public information, websites, and reports, etc.

  • Utilizing metrics in the preparation of strategic recommendations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.

  • A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
