Job description

Described Duties:
1. Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures.
2. Treat others respectfully whether it is a patient, fellow employee, member of management, customer, vendor or visitor to our premises.
3. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards in accordance with physician, psychiatrist or APRN directives.
4. Assist patients to ambulate, assist patients onto and off of exam tables, and in and out of wheel chairs.
5. Assist physician, psychiatrist or APRN in distributing appropriate patient education materials, and communicate that information to the patient in a tactful and professional manner.
6. Prepare lab specimens for shipment, as requested. (Pap smears, biopsy, cultures, etc.)
7. Assists physician, psychiatrist or APRN with procedures and properly maintains equipment before and after procedures.
8. Receive and implement activities related to standing orders, medication administration, medication refills for physician and/or APRN.
9. Prepare exam rooms and required instruments/ equipment for procedures and treatments, and then restock rooms after vacating patients as necessary.
10. Prepare patient record information for provider referrals and communicates significant information to other health care providers/entities as required.
11. Assists provider with procedures and properly maintains equipment before and after procedures.
12. Answers patient and hospital phone calls as advised by provider. Assesses patient telephone calls, walk-in patients, etc.
13. Reviews charts for completeness for daily appointments. Execute and document all refills, telephone conversations, and patient office visits in the electronic patient medical record.
14. Determine needs for medical supplies, including oxygen, and non-narcotic injectables, prepares a list as specified in policy and procedure for ordering by designated person.
15. Maintain tracking log for all lab, x-ray and referrals.
16. Attend and actively participate in Clinical Staff meetings, in-services and educational programs.
17. Documents all assessments, treatments, procedures and medications in medical record, electronic or paper during times of system downtime procedures.
18. Complies with all regulatory agencies, directives, standards and regulations. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
19. Must comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
20. Maintains current CPR certifications.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Must be able to talk, see, hear, react, stand, kneel, walk and lift up to 50 lbs.
2. Possess cognitive skills necessary to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral or written form necessary to understanding medical terminology, medical records and identifying problems and offering solutions.
3. Must be able to handle stressful situations.
4. Ability to visually assess patient condition and communicate with the patients and families with tact and professionalism.
5. Must demonstrate use of tact and patience in communication with patients, families, and NHS staff.
6. Demonstrate accuracy, proficiency and efficiency.
7. Must respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
8. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
9. The Medical Assistant may not at any time, exercise or receive delegation that involves clinical reasoning, nursing judgement, or critical decision making.

Qualifications:
1. Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Three (3) years experience in a hospital or clinic setting (preferred).
3. Must possess a certified/registered MA certification (preferred) or diploma from an accredited MA program.
4. Possess current BLS certification.
5. Possess light typing skills, computer knowledge required. Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.
6. Must possess ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, and other individuals encountered in the course of employment.
7. Ability to visually assess patient condition and communicate with the patients and families with tact and professionalism.
8. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
