Adjunct Librarians often face challenges such as adapting quickly to new institutional cultures, balancing multiple part-time roles, and having limited access to professional development opportunities. Building strong relationships within the library team and staying informed about library technologies and best practices can also help adjuncts feel more integrated and effective in their roles.

What are adjunct librarians?

Adjunct librarians are part-time or temporary librarians who typically work on a contract basis at academic institutions such as colleges or universities. They perform many of the same duties as full-time librarians, including assisting patrons with research, teaching information literacy classes, and managing library resources. Unlike full-time staff, adjunct librarians usually do not have permanent positions and may work at multiple institutions. Their flexible roles help libraries meet staffing needs during busy periods or when specialized expertise is required.
