What is an addiction counselor aide?

Addiction Counselor Aides are support professionals who assist licensed addiction counselors in helping individuals struggling with substance abuse and addiction issues. Their duties often include observing clients, leading group activities, maintaining records, and providing emotional support under supervision. While they do not diagnose or create treatment plans, Addiction Counselor Aides play a vital role in supporting recovery and ensuring a safe therapeutic environment. They typically work in rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, or residential treatment facilities. Training and education requirements vary, but most positions require a high school diploma and some specialized training.

To overcome these challenges, aides benefit from regular supervision, ongoing training, and self-care practices to manage stress and prevent burnout.
