Job description

Sixense, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to support the deployment and maintenance of structural and geotechnical instrumentation & monitoring systems. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with the local team to prepare, install, and service a wide range of monitoring equipment in diverse environments.


LOCATION: Based in Minneapolis, MN or Chicago, IL (with travel to jobsites across USA as required)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Summary

Under the supervision of the District Manager, the candidate will perform field and office-based tasks aligned with company policies, standards, and best practices. You’ll also contribute to project success by providing quality control support, observations, and technical recommendations to the project team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain various geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments following Sixense procedures, including but not limited to datalogging systems, Vibration Monitors, Inclinometers, Piezometers, Noise Monitors and Automatic Motorized Total Stations.
  • Develop monitoring plan submittals from Sixense templates based on agreed upon project scope (with assistance from District Manager).
  • Assemble instrumentation and Automatic Data Acquisition Systems (ADAS).
  • Setup, configure, and monitor web-based, project-specific Data Management Systems (Beyond Monitoring IDMS software).
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, subcontractors, and others.
  • Perform routine maintenance and installations, which may involve working at height, on rail systems, or during night shifts.
  • Operate power tools and hand tools (hammer drills, impact drivers, wrenches, etc.).
  • Assist with takeoffs, estimating, and proposal-writing when project workload allows.

Health & Safety

  • Prioritize the safety of yourself and others in every decision you make on site.
  • Actively participate in Sixense’s Health and Safety Program and help foster a positive safety culture.
  • Ensure full understanding of all relevant safety protocols before starting any task.

Other General Responsibilities

  • Communicate equipment needs, system issues, and field findings to the Sixense project team.
  • Occasionally climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs. to install or decommission instruments/sensors.
  • Perform additional duties in the workshop or field as needed.
  • Seek continuous improvement in operational procedures and workflows.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education & Experience

  • BS or MS Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Other education and/or technical backgrounds will be considered if relevant
  • EIT certification, or ability to obtain EIT within 6-months preferred.
  • 6+ months of relevant experience required
  • 2+ years working with geotechnical or structural instrumentation preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrable experience with the installation and maintenance of geotechnical and structural instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers, and total stations, or similar technologies.
  • Basic understanding of heavy construction means and methods.
  • Strong collaboration abilities, working effectively with others and across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be technology-minded, have basic knowledge about instrumentation systems, basic programming, software, basic circuits, signals/systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint)

  • Strong work ethic and professionalism in representing the company.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Travel, up to 50%, will be required both locally and nationally per the company travel policy.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $70,000 – $110,000, based on experience, qualifications and location.
