Supervisor, Packaging Mechanics

Summary
The Supervisor for the Packaging Mechanics is responsible for the efficient, effective, and safe operation and up-keep of all packaging equipment throughout the facility. This role is responsible for the functioning of the general maintenance, organization, and coordination of the shop activities including: installation, repair, inspection, fabrication, movement, and maintenance for machinery while ensuring compliance to cGMPs.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and leads all Packaging Maintenance activities.
  • Plans and schedules work distribution and load, supervises activities of technicians and contractors in various craft and trade shops to ensure compliance and on time completion.
  • Optimizes Packaging equipment performance and utilization.
  • System Matter Expert (SME) for all Preventative Maintenance and reporting.
  • Provide input on work hours needed per project volume and mechanic's skills capabilities
  • Mentor and develop Mechanics to successfully upskill and provide continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develops, updates, and implements predictive and preventive maintenance programs and SOPs.
  • Ensures compliance to cGMP and EH&S guidelines and policies including site PSM processes.
  • Handling Quality Incident Reports as they pertain to Maintenance
  • Manages onsite Contractors (including landscaping, snow removal, equipment repair, etc.) and activities to ensure safe work practices and compliance with all site cGMP requirements.
  • Ensure all annual services are completed for all critical safety systems such as fire & and equipment certifications.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g Manufacturing, QA/QC, Validation) to implement site changes.
  • Promote and insure implementation of cost control, quality improvement, and safety programs.
  • Establishes training programs or policy to make sure technicians continue to improve technical skills and stay current with SOPs.
  • Upholds Company policies, including the Professional Conduct Policy and Prohibition Against Harassment Policy, and the Business Ethics and Conduct Code
  • Works on special assignments and other activities as required by the Engineering Department.
  • Assists other staff in the facility with inspectors from the DEA, FDA, etc., where requested
  • Other groups or agencies as assigned or as they present themselves

Experience, Education, and Skills Required

  • Degree or certification preferred and 5+ years supervisory experience in manufacturing or packaging operations, engineering, or management, preferably in the pharmaceutical, chemical or similar industries.
  • GMP Experience a must
  • Experience directly leading and mentoring teams, and overseeing hourly employees
  • Knowledge of bottle and blister packaging machine mechanics
  • Experience with solvent/hazardous based processing preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate, contribute to and work within a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Able to prioritize duties and manage multiple projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
