The Senior Commerce Director, AD is a key leadership role in the Revenue organization, reporting to the SVP, Commerce. This role sets the strategic vision for AD's commerce business across interiors, furniture, decor, and bedding, with a mandate to establish AD as a recognized direct shopping destination for the design-led consumer.
The role leads a team of Editors, Writers, and Production specialists, working cross-functionally with Editorial, Product, Audience Development, and Analytics to deliver revenue and profit goals. The ideal candidate brings deep command of the design and e-commerce landscape, a track record of leading high-performing teams, and a forward-looking perspective on how AI and emerging technologies are reshaping commerce.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Vision & Content Leadership

  • Set the strategic vision for AD's multi-modal commerce content and shopping experience, ensuring a brand-first approach that reinforces editorial authority
  • Establish AD as a recognized direct shopping destination, defining the brand's position in the consumer's path to purchase and building the foundations that earn destination status
  • Define and evolve the content strategy framework, and establish ways of working between commerce and editorial that create an integrated content culture
  • Own brand-level revenue and margin targets, adjusting strategies to drive performance
Team & Culture
  • Build a high-performing team of internal resources and external partners
  • Foster knowledge sharing and proactively surface challenges to leadership, using data to validate
  • Champion a progressive mindset, embedding experimentation and calculated risk-taking into how the brand operates
Marketing & Audience Growth
  • Set the commerce marketing vision across newsletter, social, CRM, and promotional channels
  • Own audience acquisition and retention strategy in partnership with the central audience team, ensuring marketing drives measurable commerce revenue
  • Guide resource allocation across channels based on opportunity size and performance data
  • Manage and grow off-platform presence through creative partnerships and new distribution models
New Revenue & Business Model Innovation
  • Lead business model innovation for AD, evaluating new commercial structures (direct, marketplace, hybrid, subscription, services) to unlock long-term growth
  • Maintain an informed point of view on how AI, conversational commerce, agentic shopping, and other emerging technologies are reshaping the e-commerce landscape, and translate that into actionable opportunities
  • Continuously identify and raise new revenue, distribution, and format opportunities for evaluation by senior leadership
  • Champion and operationalize enterprise-wide initiatives, including creator programs, off-platform partnerships, and new deal structures, ensuring they are executed in a brand-first way that maintains editorial integrity
  • Manage creator program strategy at the brand level and act as the primary strategic partner to partnerships and audience teams on net-new revenue
Partnerships
  • Conceptualize and pitch new partnership opportunities, working with the partnerships team to develop and close
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with retail and brand partners to drive new revenue
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Will work closely with the SVP Commerce and VP Luxury Commerce, AD Editorial leadership, Partnerships & Sales, and central teams across Audience, CRM, Social, SEO, Analytics, Product, Engineering, and Finance, alongside third-party content production, retail, brand, and creator partners.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 8-10 years in e-commerce, DTC, or commerce media, with deep understanding of the design and interiors category
  • 3-5 years leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Track record of building or scaling a recognized direct shopping destination, with proven success driving an e-commerce P&L
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategic vision and translate it into operational plans that deliver revenue and margin growth
  • Fluency in emerging commerce trends, including AI-powered and agentic shopping, with the ability to translate trends into business strategy
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience structuring partner relationships and evaluating new deal structures
  • Experience leading marketing strategy across owned channels and emerging distribution models
  • Comfort operating in a test-and-learn environment, with a bias toward experimentation
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders using data
  • Excellent organizational skills and a history of fostering inclusive, high-performing team culture
The expected base salary range for this position is from $155,000 - $170,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
