Job description

About Maple Development Group

Maple Development Group LLC is a privately held real estate developer headquartered in Houston, Texas, focused on land development and residential communities across the greater Houston market. Maple is a rapidly growing organization with an expanding portfolio of residential land development projects across the Houston market. Maple is implementing Acumatica Construction and is building out dedicated project cost and development finance capability to support that system going forward.

Position Summary

The FP&A is the day-to-day financial bridge between Accounting and the Development/Project team. The role combines hands-on Acumatica project administration with an FP&A mindset: continuously tracking approved budgets, actual costs, commitments, purchase orders, change orders, current development forecasts, and project timing so management has an accurate and forward-looking view of each project.

This person will participate in the Acumatica implementation from pre-go-live through post-go-live and become a permanent internal power user of project-cost administration and reporting. The role is expected to use AI and automation as part of the daily workflow to reconcile data, identify exceptions, connect information across files and systems, and reduce repetitive manual work.

Reporting Structure

This role reports to the Financial Controller. This position enters financial transactions (commitments, budgets, cost postings) and must remain independent of the operational team.

In practice, the role works alongside the Development/Project and Engineering teams daily, with regular interaction with the CFO, Head of Development and budget analysts on forecasts, business plans, and management reporting. Approval authority, performance management, and system-of-record accountability sit with the Financial Controller.

Key Responsibilities

1. Development Finance, Budgeting & Project Controls (Daily)

ยท    Continuously monitor each project budget against actual costs, commitments, purchase orders, approved/pending change orders, and the current development forecast. Investigate material variances and coordinate with Accounting, Development, and Engineering to resolve discrepancies and update the forecast.

ยท    Maintain budget-versus-actual, budget-versus-committed, and cost-to-complete / estimate-to-complete analyses. Identify potential overruns early, document the drivers, and prepare concise variance explanations for the Financial Controller, Development team, CFO, Head of Development and Budget Analyst.

ยท    Update project business plans, cash-flow forecasts, development timing, and other project assumptions based on current cost and schedule information received from Development and Engineering.

ยท    Create and maintain purchase orders, commitments/subcontracts, change orders, project budgets, cost codes, and task structures in Acumatica, coded to the correct project, phase, task, and cost code.

ยท    Reconcile project information across Acumatica, Excel, Development schedules, engineering updates, and supporting source documents; proactively identify missing commitments, coding issues, duplicate data, or forecast gaps.

2. Acumatica, Systems, AI & Automation

ยท    Become a hands-on Acumatica power user for the Project module, including project budgets, purchase orders, commitments/subcontracts, change orders, cost codes, project reporting, and related workflows. Support agreed cutover rules and validation of in-flight and historical contracts during implementation.

ยท    Use modern AI tools as part of the daily workflow to analyze project and financial data, reconcile information across multiple files/sources, identify anomalies, assist with repeatable reporting, and improve process efficiency while independently validating outputs.

ยท    Support data validation between Business Central/NorthSpyre and Acumatica during migration, and proactively identify opportunities to automate recurring reconciliations, reporting, and data-quality checks.

3. Draws, Billing & MUD Reimbursement

ยท    Support loan draw request packages for lender submission, including supporting cost detail by project and cost code.

ยท    Track retainage held and released on commitments.

ยท    Track MUD (Municipal Utility District) eligible infrastructure costs by project and prepare reimbursement submissions, coordinating with the Financial Controller and outside engineers/consultants as needed.

ยท    Monitor MUD receivables and reconcile reimbursements received against costs submitted.

4. Sales Lot Inventory & COGS

ยท    Support sales analyst with lot inventory records by project and phase.

ยท    Support tracking of cost of goods sold (COGS) per lot sold; coordinate with the Financial Controller on GAAP-compliant cost and revenue recognition timing.

5. Controls & Segregation of Duties

ยท    All entries (purchase orders, commitments, change orders, budget adjustments) are subject to review and approval by the Financial Controller or a designated approver; this role does not self-approve its own entries.

ยท    Track subcontractor insurance certificates (COI) and other compliance documents; flag or place a payment hold when coverage has expired or is missing.

ยท    Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and short training recordings for each recurring process, so the role has built-in backup and does not become a single point of failure.

6. Implementation Participation

ยท    Participate in all Acumatica project-module training sessions as an active learner and eventual subject-matter expert.

ยท    Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact between Accounting and the Development/Project team on Acumatica project-module questions.

Required Qualifications

ยท    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Business, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field.

ยท    3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience. Prior experience with a residential land developer, homebuilder, or construction/development company is strongly preferred; this is not intended as a first post-college role.

ยท    Hands-on experience with project budgeting, budget-to-actual analysis, forecasting, project cost tracking, commitments/subcontracts, change orders, and/or lender draw processes.

ยท    Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, subcontracts, and change order documents well enough to code them correctly.

ยท    Capable working directly with both Accounting and Development/Project/Engineering teams.

ยท    Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask across several projects at once. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in cost-code and GL coding.

ยท    AI & Automation Mindset: demonstrated ability to use modern AI tools to analyze data, connect information across multiple sources, automate repetitive workflows, identify discrepancies, and improve reporting efficiency. Must be able to validate AI-generated work rather than relying on it without review.

ยท    Strong Excel and analytical skills, including the ability to combine and reconcile multiple data sets; comfortable operating inside a structured ERP data environment.

ยท    Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to translate accounting requirements into terms a non-accountant can act on.

ยท    Ability to presenting project financial findings and recommended actions to Accounting, Development, and senior management.

Preferred Qualifications

ยท    Strong hands-on experience with Acumatica or a comparable construction/project ERP (such as Procore, Sage 300 CRE, Vista, Dynamics/Business Central, or NorthSpyre) is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be comfortable becoming a power user of Acumatica.

ยท    Experience with Texas land development, residential homebuilding, or MUD reimbursement processes is strongly preferred.

ยท    Experience preparing loan draw requests.

ยท    Familiarity with Texas mechanics lien law and joint check procedures.

ยท    Bilingual English/Spanish.

ยท    Experience working inside a small or lean team without a dedicated implementation/PMO function.

What Maple Provides

ยท    Competitive compensation package, including base salary and performance-based bonus.

ยท    Opportunity to join a young, dynamic, and land development company with significant growth across the Houston market.

ยท    Direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to work across both Finance and Development.

ยท    Hands-on experience with Acumatica, AI, automation, project finance, and the full lifecycle of residential land development.

  • ยท    Strong long-term growth opportunity, with a potential career path into Senior Development Finance Analyst, Development Finance Manager, and ultimately Director-level Development Finance / FP&A responsibilities.
