Activity Assistant

Job Summary

Astoria Healthcare Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activity Assistant to join our team! As an Activity Assistant, you will play a vital role in planning and facilitating social and recreational events for our residents. Responsibilities

  • Assist in evaluating each resident's background, interests, abilities, physical limitations, and needs to develop a meaningful program to improve and enhance their quality of life

  • Develop and maintain records of resident attendance and participation in activities, as well as complete all written records and chart documentation

  • Maintain a current list of residents unable or unwilling to participate in group activities and keep records of activity participation and attendance

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the nature and etiology of disabilities and illnesses, and its impact on resident ability to engage in activities

  • Assist in developing and posting a monthly activities calendar, and coordinate activities with other relevant services

  • Maintain quarterly progress notes and conduct quarterly and annual reviews of progress towards goals specific to the resident's activity plan

  • Assist and facilitate monthly resident council meetings, providing a forum for advocacy, education, and group participation in activities and unit programming

  • Perform other duties as requested

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with small and large groups, and work well with those who have physical or mental limitations

  • High school diploma; degree in hotel management or relevant field is a plus

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Knowledge and awareness of the care needs of the elderly and/or chronically ill

  • Basic computer skills
