Job description

The Health Maintenance Activity Attendant is a person who is specifically trained, competent and performs assigned functions of health maintenance activity attendantto the client in their residence under the direction, instruction and supervision of qualified Agency personnel/Agency's Licensed Health Care Professional. In this role, you will report to the Operations Manager/IHSS Clinical Program Manager.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None


Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Understands and adheres to established Agency policies and procedures

  • Understands and promotes client rights

  • Performs health maintenance activities in accordance with the plan of care and Agency policy. Duties include but are not limited to: skin care, ambulation, bathing, dressing, feeding, hair care, mouth care, nail care, positioning, shaving, toileting, transfers, medication management, protective oversight, bowel/blader care, respiratory care, etc. (Minor attendants will not be permitted to operate floor-based vertical powered patient/resident lift devices, ceiling-mounted vertical powered patient/resident lift devices, and powered sit-to-stand patient/resident lift devices (lifting devices)

  • Performs household services essential to care in the home as assigned

  • Completes appropriate service notes completely, accurately and in a timely manner as per Agency policy

  • Reports changes in the client's condition and needs to the supervisor

  • Participates in all required orientation, training, competency and in-service programs as scheduled and necessary per Agency policy

  • Is available for and participates in the supervisory visits per Agency direction

  • Participates in coordination of client care, as required


Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
  • Demonstrate competency in caring for the client to the satisfaction of the client or Authorized Representative

  • Have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly

  • Ability to carry out written and verbal directions read and write

  • Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job

  • Must be able to lift, pull, push and carry heavy weight; must be able to bend, twist, stoop, kneel and reach

  • May be a family member subject to the reimbursement and service limitations (family members cannot be reimbursed for homemaker services)


Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must be at least 16 years old

  • Shall not represent themselves to the public as a licensed nurse, a certified nurse's aide, a licensed practical or professional nurse, a registered nurse or a registered professional nurse

  • Shall not have had their license as a nurse or certified nurse aide suspended or revoked or their application for such license or certification denied
