Altec is seeking a Facility Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist to support our commitment to environmental responsibility, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental and safety programs that protect our associates, facilities, and surrounding communities.
The EH&S Specialist serves as a key resource for facility leadership and associates by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations, leading safety initiatives, conducting training, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
What You'll Do
Environmental Compliance
  • Manage compliance with air emissions programs, emissions tracking, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with environmental permits and registrations, including air, stormwater, and waste programs.
  • Coordinate waste and stormwater sampling activities.
  • Conduct monthly and bi-weekly environmental audits and inspections.
  • Manage hazardous waste programs and hazardous material inventories.
  • Maintain Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) compliance programs.
  • Serve as the primary facility contact for regulatory agencies, including EPA inspections and communications.
  • Complete and submit required environmental regulatory reports.

Safety Program Leadership
  • Conduct safety training, environmental awareness training, and new associate orientation programs.
  • Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSA/JHA) and workplace hazard assessments.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Lead and coordinate safety-related continuous improvement and RCA events.
  • Maintain facility emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Inspect workplace environments, equipment, and work practices to ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Coordinate fire prevention, emergency response, and spill response readiness activities.

Associate Health & Wellness
  • Develop and maintain industrial hygiene programs, including:
    • Noise surveys
    • Ventilation assessments
    • Atmospheric monitoring
  • Support medical monitoring programs for associates.
  • Investigate health and safety concerns and recommend corrective measures.
  • Identify and evaluate workplace conditions that may impact associate health and safety.

Program Administration
  • Maintain environmental, safety, and regulatory records.
  • Manage facility MSDS/SDS systems and environmental databases.
  • Administer facility DOT drug testing programs.
  • Coordinate hazardous chemical communication and Right-to-Know programs.
  • Partner with Corporate Environmental and Safety teams to implement company initiatives and programs.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when conditions present a risk to associates, the environment, or regulatory compliance.

What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field

OR
  • High School Diploma/GED plus four years of directly applicable Environmental Health & Safety experience (i.e. EH&S Coordinator), at an Altec facility in lieu of a bachelor's degree required

Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • Experience working with EPA, OSHA, DOT, SPCC, stormwater, hazardous waste, and air permitting programs
  • Experience conducting environmental and safety audits
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene monitoring and assessment techniques
  • Experience supporting emergency response programs and HAZWOPER operations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory requirements
  • Hazard recognition and risk assessment skills
  • Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHA/JSA)
  • Root Cause Analysis experience utilizing tools such as 5 Whys and Cause Mapping
  • Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset
  • Effective communication and training skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and environmental/safety management systems
