What is an ACH?

An ACH job typically refers to roles related to Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments, a system used for electronic funds transfers in banking and finance. ACH professionals may work in transaction processing, fraud prevention, compliance, or operations within financial institutions. Their responsibilities often include managing batch transactions, ensuring compliance with regulations, and troubleshooting payment issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ACH specialist?

To thrive as an ACH Specialist, you need a strong understanding of banking operations, payment processing, and compliance regulations, typically supported by experience in financial services or a related degree. Familiarity with Automated Clearing House (ACH) systems, payment processing software, and knowledge of NACHA rules are essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for managing transactions and resolving discrepancies. These skills ensure accurate, secure, and compliant electronic payments, which are critical for maintaining trust and efficiency in financial operations.

What are some common challenges faced by ACH specialists when handling high volumes of electronic transactions?

ACH Specialists often manage large batches of electronic payments and transfers, which can present challenges such as identifying and resolving discrepancies, ensuring compliance with NACHA regulations, and meeting strict processing deadlines. Attention to detail is crucial, as even small errors can lead to delays or financial losses. Effective communication and collaboration with other departments, such as accounting and customer service, are also important to quickly resolve issues and maintain smooth operations.

What is the difference between Ach vs Data Analyst?

AspectAch
Required CredentialsTypically requires certifications like ACH Certification or related financial credentials
Work EnvironmentFinancial institutions, payment processing companies, or banking sectors
Employer & Industry UsageUsed mainly in finance, banking, and payment processing industries
Common Search & ComparisonPeople often compare Ach roles with Data Analysts to understand industry differences

Ach roles focus on payment systems, banking processes, and financial transactions, requiring specific financial credentials. Data Analysts, on the other hand, analyze data across various industries without necessarily needing financial certifications. While Ach specialists work within financial institutions, Data Analysts have broader roles across sectors. Understanding these differences helps job seekers target the right roles based on their skills and career goals.

Job description

Design, develop, and enhance RESTful and event‑driven APIs supporting high‑volume payment, reconciliation, and reporting workflows, following secure, versioned, and contract‑first interface practices.

Develop and improve reconciliation and settlement pipelines to increase observability, throughput, and operational resilience across ACH, card, and check processing systems. Define and enforce architecture standards and coding practices across teams, ensuring consistent application of secure, scalable, and maintainable design patterns. Contribute to foundational system architecture and provide technical guidance to distributed engineering teams through code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing. Collaborate with Product, UX, and Engineering teams to analyze business requirements and implement scalable, compliant technical solutions. Evaluate technical trade‑offs among delivery timelines, implementation complexity, and long‑term scalability when designing and implementing software components. Implement monitoring, logging, and testing mechanisms to support platform reliability, observability, and release readiness. Improve software development workflows by identifying and addressing inefficiencies in CI/CD pipelines, build processes, and infrastructure automation. Forecast system scaling limits and architectural risks, leading multi‑year modernization initiatives, including service decomposition, modularization, and cloud‑native adoption. Select and standardize technology stacks and architecture patterns, ensuring alignment with security, compliance, performance, and platform guidelines. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, resolving technical issues related to system integrations, payment networks, and platform interoperability. Provide technical input to customers or internal departments regarding software functionality, system design considerations, and ongoing maintenance activities. Up to 10% domestic travel required to collaborate with Engineering Managers and Engineers on quarterly focus areas and to participate in hackathons. Telecommuting may be permitted up to 2 days per week. When not telecommuting, must report to Entrata Inc., 4205 Chapel Ridge Road, Lehi, UT 84048. Salary: $158,400 - $256,500 per year.

  • 7 years of professional experience architecting resilient, cloud‑native systems using autoscaling, multi‑region design, and event‑driven patterns to ensure high availability and fault tolerance for mission‑critical platforms.
  • 7 years of professional experience architecting distributed enterprise systems using DDD, CQRS, and asynchronous messaging, integrating third‑party payment services through secure, idempotent, and highly available APIs.
  • 7 years of professional experience building high‑throughput, resilient architectures using RabbitMQ to orchestrate distributed, asynchronous workflows across payment and data platforms.
  • 7 years of professional experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines that automate testing, security checks, and cloud deployments for fast, reliable, and compliant software delivery.
