SUMMARY
Sets up and operates an Accurpress press brake to bend and form metal plate, sheet metal, and structural components to blueprint, work order, and quality specifications. Uses machine controls, backgauge settings, tooling, and inspection practices to produce accurate parts safely and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Reviews blueprints, work orders, bend sequences, material type, thickness, and part requirements before setup.
  • Selects, installs, positions, and aligns proper punches, dies, and tooling for the required bend operation.
  • Sets up Accurpress machine controls, ram settings, tonnage limits, bend angles, backgauge positions, crowning, and tooling clearances as required for the job.
  • Programs, recalls, or adjusts CNC control settings and verifies the setup before running production parts.
  • Positions material manually or with material-handling equipment, including cranes or lift assists, and aligns the workpiece to the backgauge, tooling, or layout marks.
  • Operates the press brake using approved controls and safety devices while monitoring the bend process for accuracy, consistency, and safe operation.
  • Performs first-piece and in-process inspections using appropriate measuring tools, including tape measures, calipers, squares, and angle gauges.
  • Verifies finished part dimensions, bend angles, flange lengths, and overall conformance to print requirements.
  • Makes minor machine, backgauge, or program adjustments as needed to maintain part quality and reports machine, tooling, or safety concerns to the Team Leader.
  • Performs routine operator maintenance, cleans the work area, handles tooling properly, and follows all lockout, guarding, PPE, and shop safety requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Individual must demonstrate the ability to safely set up and operate an Accurpress press brake, use measuring tools, follow bend instructions, and maintain consistent part quality. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and angles. Ability to understand bend dimensions, material thickness, bend allowance, offsets, and basic geometry as required for accurate setup and inspection.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience reading blueprints is required. Previous press brake, CNC control, fabrication, or machine setup experience is preferred.
