What Drives SuccessThe Manager, Inventory Control is responsible for leading inventory accuracy, control, and process discipline within a large, high-volume parts and supplies distribution center. This role ensures the right parts are available, accurately tracked, and efficiently managed across receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, returns, and cycle count activities. The Manager will partner closely with distribution operations, transportation, customer service, procurement, and finance to support service levels, reduce shrink, improve inventory integrity, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced, multi-shift environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Accuracy & Control
- Oversee daily inventory transactions across receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, returns, and inventory adjustments within a large parts and supplies distribution center.
- Lead cycle counting programs, location audits, SKU accuracy reviews, and full physical inventory activities for a broad mix of parts, supplies, accessories, and service components.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, including mis-picks, overages, shortages, damages, returns, bin/location errors, and root-cause issues impacting customer order fulfillment.
- Monitor inventory levels, replenishment needs, slotting accuracy, and product availability to support customer service levels and high-volume order demand.
System & Process Management
- Maintain and optimize inventory control processes, standard work, SOPs, and transactional discipline for a complex distribution center network environment.
- Ensure accurate system updates for receipts, transfers, replenishment moves, inventory adjustments, customer shipments, returns, and vendor-related transactions.
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and supply chain partners to troubleshoot WMS/ERP issues, improve inventory visibility, and strengthen process controls.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with distribution operations, receiving, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, returns, transportation, procurement, customer service, and finance teams.
- Coordinate inventory availability to support customer orders, branch replenishment, service parts demand, seasonal volume shifts, and priority fulfillment needs.
- Support new product launches, SKU transitions, product discontinuations, vendor changes, and inventory moves while minimizing service disruption.
Reporting & Analytics
- Generate and analyze inventory reports, including cycle count accuracy, inventory turns, shrink, aging inventory, location accuracy, fill rate impacts, and transaction compliance.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve inventory accuracy, order fulfillment performance, slotting effectiveness, and overall distribution center productivity.
- Track KPIs and present findings, risks, trends, and corrective actions to distribution center and supply chain leadership.
Compliance & Audit Readiness
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, SOX requirements, safety expectations, inventory policies, and distribution center operating procedures.
- Maintain documentation for inventory audits, transaction reviews, discrepancy investigations, and internal/external audit processes.
Team Leadership
- Supervise inventory control analysts, inventory clerks, cycle count associates, and other team members supporting high-volume parts and supplies inventory operations.
- Train team members on inventory procedures, system usage, transaction accuracy, location control, and standard work expectations.
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, safety, urgency, customer focus, and continuous improvement across the inventory control function.
Experience and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of inventory control, distribution, warehouse, or supply chain operations experience in a high-volume environment
- Proven success leading inventory control teams in large, multi-shift, high-SKU distribution center operations
- Strong knowledge of inventory accuracy, cycle counting, root-cause analysis, warehouse process controls, Lean methodologies, KPIs, and operational best practices
- Experience supporting distribution center operations, including receiving, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, returns, and transportation interfaces
- Proficiency with WMS/ERP systems, preferably SAP, EWM, TM, and Microsoft Office tools
- Strong leadership, decision-making, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced distribution environment
Preferred:
- Experience in HVAC, service parts, aftermarket parts, industrial supplies, or similar high-SKU parts distribution environments
- Hands-on experience launching, scaling, or optimizing a large distribution facility, inventory control function, or WMS-enabled operation
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a large distribution center environment, including walking the floor, standing for extended periods, and navigating warehouse aisles, docks, and storage areas.
- Ability to occasionally bend, reach, climb stairs, and access inventory locations or work areas as needed to support audits, investigations, cycle counts, and operational reviews.
- Ability to occasionally lift, move, or inspect parts, supplies, cartons, or materials up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to use standard office and warehouse technology, including computers, handheld devices, scanners, printers, and related inventory management tools.
