About the Role

As a Personal Finance & Benefits Specialist at Pathfinder, you'll play an important role in helping the individuals we support manage their personal finances and maintain access to essential benefits. You'll combine financial accuracy with compassionate, person-centered support as you help individuals budget, pay bills, manage accounts, and navigate benefits that support their independence and stability.


As a Personal Finance & Benefits Specialist at Pathfinder, You Will:

Personal Financial Management & Bookkeeping

  • Maintain accurate financial records for the personal accounts of individuals supported by Pathfinder.
  • Record income, expenses, deposits, and other financial transactions.
  • Review and import transactions into QuickBooks from the electronic check register.
  • Reconcile individual bank accounts and statements each month.
  • Review receipts and supporting documentation to ensure transactions are properly documented.
  • Monitor spending patterns and identify potential concerns, including possible financial exploitation.
  • Help ensure individual and collective accounts maintain appropriate balances.

Budgeting & Personal Spending Support

  • Meet with individuals and team members to develop annual budgets that reflect individual needs and priorities.
  • Help ensure funds are available to pay bills and encourage appropriate savings planning.
  • Initiate transfers of budgeted funds to individual debit card accounts for personal spending.
  • Provide financial information that helps individuals, guardians, and appropriate team members understand account balances, resources, and expenditures.

Bill Payment & Financial Reporting

  • Process invoices and payments for individuals' monthly bills accurately and on time.
  • Work with vendors to establish electronic payment options when available.
  • Prepare and provide required financial reports to individuals, guardians, staff, and state agencies.
  • Develop and maintain checks and balances that support accuracy and accountability.

Benefits Administration & Advocacy

  • Support the Pathfinder Representative Payee Program under the oversight of the Disabilities Benefits & Finance Manager.
  • Facilitate and manage benefits, including Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP benefits, Section 8 rent assistance, trusts, burial agreements, and other applicable benefits.
  • Respond promptly to requests from outside agencies to help prevent interruptions or lapses in benefits.
  • Submit required monthly wage reporting and paystub information to the Social Security Administration.
  • Advocate for individuals with outside entities in a patient, professional, and confidential manner.

Documentation, Compliance & Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential financial and benefits documentation.
  • Review and update program and departmental policies and procedures as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Continuous Improvement department to prepare documentation for internal and external investigations when required.
  • Communicate regularly with individuals supported, coworkers, internal teams, and outside agencies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-services, committees, and professional development opportunities.
  • Follow Pathfinder's administrative, safety, emergency, and organizational procedures.

Requirements

Preferred Minimum Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  •  Associate degree in accounting or business preferred.
  • Experience with bookkeeping, budgeting, and/or finances preferred.
  • One year of experience working with Excel/Word is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
  • Valid driver's license and current auto insurance required.
