Job description

Senior Accounting Systems & Financial Operations Leader, CPA

Architect. Operator. Builder. Leader of Excellence

Location: Reno, Nevada

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site (not remote work)

The Opportunity

This is not a maintenance role. We are looking for a seasoned CPA who has proven experience leading individuals, developing systems and processes, and can transform an accounting system into one that can be scaled for growth, while simultaneously building an internal audit structure for monitoring the accounting system and its output. You will own the integrity of our client?s financial life and play a critical role in shaping how the business makes decisions. You?ll operate with autonomy, make judgment calls without perfect information, and design systems that hold up under scrutiny as the organization grows and you grow within it.

About Us

Lineage acts as a guide, planning resource, management office, and trust company assisting with complex financial matters while helping select ultra-high net worth families develop their inner wealth. To preserve our focus on people, we have carefully avoided building an internal asset management or investment practice, instead focusing resources on careful oversight of assets. The focus of the accounting system is accounting for client assets within a client?s various legal structures.

What You Will Own

1. System Integrity & Financial Truth

  • Design and execute rigorous methodologies to validate the completeness and accuracy of accounting systems, including monitoring that employees are accomplishing this on a daily basis (or less frequently, if you determine)
  • Build controls and testing frameworks that ensure data is reliable, explainable, and audit-ready
  • Identify weaknesses before they become problems?and fix them at the root

2. Build Internal Audit System, proving System Integrity and Financial Truth

  • As the processes are designed for the accounting system, simultaneously develop the means for monitoring key facets within the system, confirming it is doing what is asked of it and that individuals are interacting with the system as designed
  • Develop reporting associated with monitoring the key aspects of the systems and the individuals for management and external auditor review

3. Scalable Process Architecture

  • Envision and implement accounting processes that scale cleanly with growth
  • Eliminate inefficiencies and manual work through thoughtful system and process design and automation
  • Create infrastructure that allows the organization to move seamlessly without sacrificing accuracy

4. High-Stakes Decision Support

  • Make sound business decisions with incomplete data, balancing the speed of decision making with risk and precision
  • Provide clear financial and operational insight that leadership can act on with confidence

5. Complex Financial Structures & Loans

  • Critically consider complex financial structures, including loan agreements, balancing the requirements of the document with the confines of the accounting system:
    • Making it work within the entire system (not just solving a single question for a single client, but applying the question to the context of the entire system)
  • Build and maintain accurate amortization schedules and supporting models and integrating them as well as possible into the accounting system
  • Ensure alignment between contractual obligations and accounting treatment

6. Leadership & Organizational Awareness

  • Lead, mentor, and elevate a high-performing accounting team
  • Operate beyond the ?accounting silo,? understanding how decisions impact the broader business
  • Set a high bar for accountability, clarity, and execution

7. Communication That Drives Action

  • Translate complex financial and system concepts into clear, actionable insights
  • Don?t wait to be asked to solve a situation when it is clear that it needs attention
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and owners
  • Drive alignment across the organization to ensure things are done on time

We Would Also Like Your Help with Taxes (due to your tax experience)

  • Train, Develop and Oversee systems to register entities and manage federal tax payment setup through EFTPS
  • Train, Develop and Oversee preparation and filing of 1099s and related reporting requirements
  • Train, Develop and Oversee compilation and organization of tax-ready financial information for external preparers or filings
  • Train, Develop and Oversee response to federal and state tax notices with accuracy and urgency, resolving issues efficiently
  • Train, Develop and Design processes that ensure tax compliance is proactive, organized, and scalable

What We Are Looking for From You

  • A builder of systems and processes, not just a maintainer of them
  • Comfortable making decisions in reasonable ambiguity, recognizing that there is not enough time to wait for perfect information
  • Deep experience with accounting systems/ERP environments and internal controls
  • Proven ability to evaluate and ensure data integrity at scale
  • Strong experience interpreting debt agreements and building financial models
  • Relentless attention to detail, without losing sight of the bigger picture

What We are Hoping for From You

  • You?ve rebuilt or significantly upgraded accounting infrastructure before
  • You think in systems, not tasks
  • You raise standards wherever you go and people feel your reverence for excellence and timeliness
  • You care about getting it right, but you also know when to move

What Success Looks Like

  • Financial data is right, provable and can be monitored
  • Processes for the financial data are right, provable and can be monitored within the system
  • Systems and processes can be scaled
  • Leadership relies on your judgment, guidance and ability to communicate complex ideas
  • The accounting function operates as a strategic advantage, not a bottleneck
