PURPOSE

The Accounting Specialist functions as a key part of the CUinBalance team that provides daily, monthly, and quarterly back-office accounting duties for credit union partners. The Accounting Specialist works closely with credit union partners to provide accounting support and training when needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Complete daily accounting work including, but not limited to, daily balancing and exception processing.
  • Reconcile various accounts for clients including, but not limited to, bank accounts, fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and suspense accounts, vault & teller drawers, subsidiary member ledgers.
  • Train credit union managers/CEOs to utilize various CU*Base management tools used for financial analysis including contingent liability analysis, asset/liability management, operating/financial ratios, loan origination costing, etc.
  • Assist credit union staff with required quarterly financial reporting to NCUA (5300 Call Report) and management reports for the credit union board of directors.
  • Train and assist credit union staff on various accounting functions including budgeting, fixed assets, dividend forecasting, accruals & amortizations, investment processing, etc.
  • Perform period end closings for clients including calculation and input of accruals and preparation of financial statements.
  • Be able to lead classroom training sessions for CU*BASE software, conversion support, special client requests and department classes.
  • Take responsibility for increasing job knowledge, familiarity with credit union operations, training and problem-solving skills.
  • Properly and effectively track time spent, detailed task management, and project statuses within established Project Management software in accordance with documented policy and standards.
  • Maintain a positive contribution as a member of the CUinBalance team and complete all tasks assigned by management to meet team objectives.

SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT

    • Provide same-day response to all internal inquiries received by noon that day, provide next day response to all others, establishing priority to urgency on all requests
    • Provide internal support to all CUSO Development lines of business accordingly, to advocate and encourage internal collaboration

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Prior job experience in the credit union/banking back-office accounting is required.
  • Prior job experience in B2B client service and support is preferred.
  • Familiarity with credit union operations, regulations, and frontline job roles preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills is required.
  • Must be willing to travel to client sites to provide training and support as needed.
  • Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential data is non-negotiable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

CUSOUTH operates in a professional office building setting as well as remote sites.
