Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to support our Corporate Controller and oversee key aspects of project accounting across the organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely month-end close, maintaining job cost integrity, and managing the lifecycle of projects from setup through closeout.
This is a senior-level individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities, ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Corporate Controller with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
  • Manage the job setup process, ensuring accuracy of budgets, cost codes, and contract details
  • Maintain and monitor job cost accounting and ensure data integrity across all active projects
  • Manage project team accounting needs related to owner draws, change orders, contract setup, and other project related items
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Manage fixed asset records within Sage Fixed Assets software
  • Assist Corporate Controller with annual budgeting process
  • Distribute monthly and ad hoc reporting to operations and project teams
  • Research technical topics such as sales and use tax, B&O tax, GAAP principles, etc., as needed
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Additional related duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
  • CPA license (strongly preferred)
  • 3-6+ years of accounting experience, preferably in:
    1. Construction or project-based accounting
    2. Public accounting (strongly preferred)
    3. Tax background (a plus)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas such as Xlookup/Vlookup, Sumifs, If, and other logical formulas, as well as proficiency using pivot tables and other technical functions.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and GAAP financial reporting
  • Knowledge of sales, B&O, payroll, and income taxation principles
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Experience with ERP/Accounting Systems (Viewpoint Vista preferred)
