Accounting Software Coding information

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Accounting software coding is a specialized skill within accounting and software development. While highly experienced accountants or those in executive roles like CFOs can earn over $500,000 annually, typical accounting software coders or developers usually earn lower salaries, often ranging from $60,000 to $120,000 per year depending on experience, location, and industry. Reaching a $500,000 annual income generally requires advanced roles, extensive experience, or working in high-paying sectors or consulting positions.

What is the highest paid coding job?

In the field of accounting software coding, senior software engineers, solutions architects, and technical leads tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures annually. These roles typically require advanced programming skills, experience with enterprise systems, and knowledge of financial regulations and compliance. Specialized certifications and experience with cloud platforms can also contribute to higher compensation.

What is accounting software coding?

Accounting software coding involves designing, developing, and maintaining computer programs that help businesses manage their financial transactions and records. This can include building features for invoicing, payroll, expense tracking, and reporting based on accounting principles. Professionals in this field need a strong understanding of both software development and accounting practices to ensure accuracy and compliance. These specialists often work with programming languages like Python, Java, or C#, and may integrate their solutions with other business systems.

Is coding useful in accounting?

Coding is useful in accounting jobs because it enables automation of tasks, data analysis, and customization of accounting software. Skills in programming languages like Excel VBA, Python, or SQL can improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and data management.

What is the difference between Accounting Software Coding vs Bookkeeping?

Accounting Software Coding involves creating and customizing software tools for accounting tasks, requiring programming skills. Bookkeeping focuses on recording financial transactions manually or digitally, emphasizing accuracy and attention to detail. While both roles support financial management, they differ significantly in skills and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Accounting Software Coding, and why are they important?

To thrive in Accounting Software Coding, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like Java, C#, or Python), a solid understanding of accounting principles, and a relevant degree in computer science or accounting. Experience with ERP systems, accounting software platforms (like QuickBooks or SAP), and familiarity with databases and APIs are typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for collaborating with stakeholders and troubleshooting complex issues. These skills and qualities are crucial to building reliable, compliant, and user-friendly accounting solutions that meet business needs.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals coding for accounting software, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals coding for accounting software often encounter challenges such as ensuring compliance with evolving financial regulations, handling complex data integrations, and maintaining data security. It’s crucial to stay up-to-date with accounting standards and work closely with domain experts to design accurate financial modules. Additionally, collaborating with QA teams to rigorously test features helps catch errors early, and following secure coding practices minimizes risks related to sensitive financial data.

Will AI replace accountants by 2030?

Accounting software coding professionals develop and maintain software that automates financial tasks, but AI is unlikely to fully replace accountants by 2030. Instead, AI will augment their work, requiring skills in both accounting principles and technology to interpret and manage automated systems effectively.

We specialize in ground-up construction and rehabilitation projects, focusing on creating aesthetically beautiful, functional, and sustainable living spaces. Our mission is to provide high-quality multifamily and single-resident housing for diverse communities, including the unhoused, veterans, seniors, and working-class families. We are committed to innovation, sustainability, and inclusiveness in everything we do. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a detail-oriented and driven Senior Accounting Manager to join our team and help ensure the financial success of our projects.

The Senior Accounting Manager will play a critical role in managing the financial aspects of Novin Development’s predevelopment and construction phases. You will oversee a broad range of accounting functions for Novin Development and Novin Construction, including general ledger activities, monthly reconciliations, cost certifications, and draw processes. This position requires close collaboration with project managers, external auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and accurate financial tracking of our construction projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possesses strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the preparation of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and the month-end close process for multiple entities, including Joint Ventures.
• Manage monthly draw processes for external and internal funding, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payments.
• Review daily cash entries and maintain accurate construction financial files.
• Prepare cost certification audits with external auditors and assist with annual audits.
• Code and process accounts payable for construction projects using accounting software (QuickBooks Intuit)
• Prepare project reports, including budget-to-actual variance analysis, and provide insights to project managers and senior leadership.
• Reconcile project budgets, paid-to-date, and draw worksheets provided by lenders.
• Prepare and submit quarterly and annual financial reports for cities, counties, and other public agencies.
• Working with HR, ensure compliance with DIR (Department of Industrial Relations) for certified payroll reporting.
• Prepare capital call requests for Joint Venture partners, as well as monthly and quarterly investor reports.

Construction Accounting & Project Management Support:

• Set up new construction projects in the accounting system (QuickBooks) and track financial progress throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Review and reconcile payment application packages submitted by general contractors and consultants.
• Prepare and manage draw packages, capital calls, and funding requests for lenders or investors.
• Provide project managers with timely financial reports and updates on project budgets and expenses.
• Assist in the preparation of project budgets, cash flows, and forecasts in collaboration with the development and project management teams.

Vendor & Accounts Payable Management:

• Accurately code and process a high volume of invoices for construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
• Manage vendor communications, respond to inquiries, and ensure timely resolution of payment issues.
• Maintain organized and accurate vendor files and records.

Mentorship & Team Collaboration:

• Mentor and support junior accounting staff, interns, and cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, including the President and Project Managers, to develop systems, procedures, and financial reporting processes.
• Provide training and guidance to staff members as needed, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

• Represent Novin Development in public meetings, hearings, and engagements, working closely with the President and other senior leaders.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, lenders, investors, and other partners.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, with a focus on construction, real estate development, or affordable housing finance.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and construction accounting.
  • Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Yardi, or similar (QuickBooks experience preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other financial software tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data and trends.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with low-income housing finance, public-private partnerships, and construction cost certifications is highly preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Benefits:

  • Hybrid Work Schedule: Work from home on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Paid Time Off: 80 hours of vacation (increased with years of service) and 40 hours of sick leave.
  • 12 Paid Holidays.
  • Health Insurance: Choose between Kaiser or Blue Anthem.
  • Dental and Vision Insurance.
  • $1,500 yearly Educational Stipend.
  • 401(k) Plan: 100% match up to 4% of base salary (vested after 2 years).
  • Discretionary Bonus.

This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, efforts or working conditions associated with this job. While this job description is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job or to require that other or different tasks are performed when circumstances change.
