Don Johnson Motors is looking for an experienced, dependable Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist to support our Chevrolet and Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealerships in Hayward.
This is more than a data-entry position. You'll receive extensive cross-training across our accounting functions, develop a complete understanding of our dealership operations, and have the opportunity to become a senior member of the department as your expertise and responsibilities grow.

What You'll Do
  • Review sales documents, invoices, receipts, check records, and system reports for accuracy
  • Verify, allocate, and post business transactions to the appropriate accounts and ledgers
  • Maintain subsidiary accounts and complete accounting records through trial balance
  • Reconcile bank statements, schedules, and general ledger accounts
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Compile reports covering cash receipts and disbursements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, profit and loss, and other operating activity
  • Calculate and verify employee wages using time and attendance records
  • Prepare payroll for accurate and timely processing
  • Complete payroll-related withholding, Social Security, and other required tax reports
  • Prepare and distribute monthly customer statements
  • Process warranty accounting and supporting documentation
  • Assist with month-end closing and financial reporting
  • Maintain organized records and safeguard confidential financial, guest, and team member information
  • Maintain a professional appearance and a neat, organized work area
  • Coordinate with managers and team members across both Hayward dealerships
  • Support additional accounting responsibilities as needed

Requirements
Required:
  • Previous bookkeeping, accounting, or closely related financial experience
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, and general ledger accounting
  • Exceptional accuracy, organization, and follow-through
  • Strong ethics, discretion, and professional judgment
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work independently
  • Willingness to learn, cross-train, and support the broader team
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and accounting software

Preferred:
  • Automotive dealership accounting experience
  • Experience supporting multiple businesses or locations
  • Payroll and month-end closing experience
  • Auto/Mate or other dealership management system experience

Automotive experience is helpful, but it isn't required. We welcome experienced accounting professionals from banking, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, professional services, and other detail-driven environments.
