CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage, mentor, and guide a team of direct reports
  • Lead monthly team meetings and one-on-one check-ins
  • Conduct mid-year and year-end performance evaluations
  • Support staff development through goal setting, training, and regular performance assessments
  • Collaborate with Assistant Controllers to assign and balance property portfolios
  • Develop and implement Performance Improvement Plans when necessary

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure timely and accurate updates to internal tracking systems
  • Promote accountability and ensure timely delivery of financial reports to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Support adherence to accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist the accounting team during month-end close to ensure deadlines are met and financial integrity is maintained

Staffing & Property Management

  • Participate in staffing decisions, including interviewing and hiring candidates
  • Oversee onboarding of new properties and maintain a small, rotating portfolio as needed
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding of properties proactively

Training & Documentation

  • Provide training to accounting personnel to support skill development and future growth
  • Assist in creating and maintaining training documentation
  • Develop and present departmental policies and procedures regularly

Financial Review & Compliance

  • Attend and actively engage in departmental and accounting management meetings
  • Ownership of internal review inbox as a collaborative team, along with Accounting Managers and Assistant Controllers
  • Review monthly financial reporting packages, distributions, and management fee calculations
  • Manage user access and maintenance in banking platforms
  • Assist in the annual review of CAM reconciliations and budget processes

Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain proactive communication with Assistant Controllers and the Director of Property Accounting regarding key activities and concerns
  • Serve as a collaborative team member, providing support and coverage as needed

Requirements:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience in Real Estate property accounting
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred
  • CPA license is a plus but not required
  • MRI and Yardi experience preferred
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi task
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Work, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • The ability to quickly learn new software programs
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills
  • Effective team player who also possesses the ability to work independently
  • Hours are 8:30-5:00 Monday through Friday with remote working opportunities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university. Minimum of five years of related experience and training preferred. In place of a BA/BS degree, must have six or more years related experience.
