Accounting Manager

Capital One is seeking a highly motivated professional to join the Card Accounting Department as a Manager supporting Rewards Accounting. This role leads our internal and external reporting and analysis of the rewards liability. This role will oversee the daily rewards accounting work, working closely with others in Card Accounting to deliver timely and accurate monthly reporting of rewards expense/liability as well as with our finance and tech partners to consider the impact of business initiatives on accounting processes.

As an Accounting Manager, you will leverage your Accounting and Financial Analysis expertise and apply your strategic and analytical skills to address major Controllers challenges. You will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insights, encourages you to take on new responsibilities, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation. We proactively communicate with our partners and leadership, and help shape priorities by analyzing data, gathering metrics, identifying pain points and rationalizing business processes.

Detailed activities and responsibilities include:

  • Perform monthly close responsibilities, including review of journal entries and reconciliations

  • Present monthly financial results and metrics to management to support monthly close process

  • Execute SOX Controls and implement ongoing enhancements to documentation

  • Support compliance activities for management, internal audit and external audit groups by providing documentation and addressing queries

  • Serve as a subject matter expert over Rewards Accounting

  • Set the team agenda and prioritization, driving and influencing decisions on strategic imperatives or special topics

  • Manage your team to elevate associate performance, create a positive environment and build and maintain a high performing team

  • Participate in new business initiatives, learning from key business partners on new products and projects

  • Build and leverage relationships with business partners, including SOX, tech and finance to understand their processes and results and share expertise and insight

  • Create connections across the team and organization to drive collaboration

  • Leverage new and existing technologies to enhance reporting and analytics, and leverage sound business judgment to evaluate analytical results and formulate recommendations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting, external financial reporting, audit, or a combination

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, external financial reporting, audit, or a combination

  • 2+ years of experience in banking or financial services

  • 1+ years of people management experience

  • 1+ years of experience with Accounting Systems such as PeopleSoft or Workday

  • Ability to reach well-reasoned conclusions on financial reporting and disclosure issues

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to coordinate work across a team and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Manager, Accounting


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Manager, Accounting










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
