Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the Company's accounting operations, including financial close activities, consolidated financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, tax and audit coordination, cash management, and process improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This position ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies, and the maintenance of effective internal controls.
Reporting to the Treasurer, the Accounting Manager leads accounting staff and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support manufacturing operations, financial reporting requirements, and organizational objectives. The role requires strong technical accounting expertise, SAP proficiency, manufacturing accounting experience, and demonstrated leadership skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
    • Foster an environment of teamwork, compliance and continual improvement.
    • Adhere to the Company's objectives, i.e. Safety, Quality, Environmental and Information Security
    • Ensure compliance with departments standard procedures.
    • Work closely with the Treasurer, internal accounting staff, and offshore accounting support team in the following areas:

Managerial & Supervisory
  • Supervise and mentor internal accounting staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and training, and foster career growth and accountability.
  • Manage the daily accounting operations and deliverables of the internal accounting team, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with company procedures.
  • Provide solution support to the cross-functional teams to resolve accounting transactional, system, or procedural issues efficiently.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or modified to meet business needs.

Month-end and quarter -end close
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
  • Serve as the primary accounting lead for SAP month-end and year-end closing activities, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Cost Accounting, and related subledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of SAP FICO, MM, and Asset Accounting (AA) modules, ensuring proper accounting treatment of business transactions and efficient financial close processes.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, reserves, and financial schedules to support timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee manufacturing cost accounting, including inventory valuation, standard costing, cost allocations, and cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting.
  • Manage standard cost development and maintenance, including analysis and reporting of material, labor, manufacturing overhead, and production variances.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Manage inventory controls, physical inventory observations, inventory reconciliations, and investigation of inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and allocation of manufacturing overhead costs and production-related expenses.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, asset disposals, physical asset verification, and capital project tracking.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

Consolidated Financial Reporting Package
  • Managing month-end and quarter-end close processes, consolidated reporting packages, related-party transactions, and maintaining corporate reporting deadlines in a manufacturing environment.

Audit & Tax
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure compliance with audit and reporting requirements.
  • Manage local and federal tax compliance, including income tax, property tax, and sales/use tax filings, working closely with external tax firms to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Continuous Improvement
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes (P2P, R2R, O2C) to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.

Cost Center Budget Control & Reporting
  • Lead the monthly cost center reporting process and support cost center managers in budget monitoring.
  • Support the annual budget process and forecast and midterm review cycles.

Cash Management
  • Maintain day-to-day banking relationships and act as the primary contact for routine banking matters, while supporting the Treasurer on treasury management, cash planning, and banking initiatives.
  • Monitor daily cash balances and transactions and manage short- and long-term cash forecasts.

Forecasting & Management Reporting
  • Support the Treasurer and senior management in analyzing divisional financial performance and preparing consolidated forecasts for the Profit & Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement.
  • Support budget preparation, forecast updates, variance analysis, and management reporting to support business decision-making.

  • Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with at least 10 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, manufacturing accounting, cost accounting, inventory valuation, fixed asset accounting, and financial reporting.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for financial reporting, analysis, and presentation preparation.
    • Hands-on experience leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes using SAP, including FICO, MM, and Asset Accounting (AA) modules.
    • Demonstrated ability to research and implement new accounting guidance, develop accounting policies, and determine appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions.
    • Proven ability to manage financial close activities and deliver accurate financial statements and reporting packages within established deadlines.
    • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing accounting staff while driving cross-functional process improvements.
    • High level of accountability and commitment to accuracy, compliance, transparency, and strong internal controls.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and work successfully in a team-oriented environment.
  • Preferred Skills
    • Experience with tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, and income tax reporting, is a plus.
    • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements through automation, workflow optimization, and RPA technologies within accounting and finance functions.
    • CPA preferred.
  • Physical Demands
    • Ability to sit and work in front of a computer for majority of the day.
