Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Working under limited supervision of a Manager, the Senior Accountant in Fund Accounting Oversight is primarily responsible for ensuring the accuracy of fund accounting records and other financial reports generated by third-party service providers for the T. Rowe Price '40 Act mutual funds and non-registered funds (e.g., trusts, college savings plans and partnerships), as well as various international products. This position requires developing an understanding of T. Rowe Price reporting and accounting policy as well as a technical understanding of U.S. GAAP and Regulatory disclosure requirements in order to properly understand potential financial statement impacts. The position is necessary to ensure that the service provider achieves the quality standards set by TRP for financial reporting and/or fund accounting.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight and Analysis of Complex Accounting Matters

  • Assist in the design of and execute fund accounting oversight procedures, which include, reviewing daily and other periodic fund accounting information to ensure they accurately reflect requirements set forth in US GAAP, SEC regulation and TRP internal policy. Additionally, the incumbent will be performing analytics to assess the reasonableness of balances with the expectation to use his/her subject matter expertise to identify relationships and balances that require further follow up with either internal groups or outside service providers. Completes work in accordance with financial controls, firm policies, and regulations and demonstrates accountability/ownership for work completed.
  • Provide oversight and analysis of functions outsourced to service providers.
  • Demonstrates willingness and aptitude to proactively assume increased responsibility
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on complex accounting matters. Partners with accounting managers, supervisors and staff across Investment Operations departments to appropriately manage complex transactions.

Client and CFO Group Support

  • Significant interaction with other areas of the broader Fund Operations in support of client needs
  • Generates ideas and collaborates with others to improve existing processes and communication
  • Interacts with associates primarily in operations, investment staff and external customers to research and respond to questions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Escalates questions to manager as needed

Strategic Initiatives

  • Supports management on strategic and tactical special projects

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • College degree and 1 year of related work experience, or
  • Associate degree and 3 years related work experience, or
  • High School diploma/equivalent and 5 years related work experience
  • Proficient in Excel and PC skills
  • Substantial knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Understanding of mutual fund accounting
  • Strong communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Works well independently and in a team environment. Comfortable in a matrixed environment

Preferred

  • Working toward CPA or CMA
  • Prefer three years of experience with mutual fund accounting
