Job description

The Staff Accountant develops precise financial data and keeps accurate accounting records in all journals and ledgers. Provides support to the Director of Finance to ensure all financial activities and processes are compliant with state and federal regulations and conducted timely.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Responsible for accounts payable, including but not limited to purchase order entry, check issuance, ACH/epayment recording, utility tracking, vendor relations, prepaid allocations, lease/SBITA monitoring, and documentation compliance.
  • Performs general ledger/general journal review and reconciliation including the preparation of required journal entries and adjustments.
  • Assists in the development of the audited financial statements, footnotes, and other required financial reporting to external agencies.
  • Aids in budget development and monitoring.
  • Processes 1099NEC IRS Tax reporting annually.
  • Participates in all phases of audits, reviews, and monitoring and analysis of finance records and documents by all contracting agencies and all federal, state, and county authorities.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly financial reports/statements for internal use.
  • Calculates and applies for Motor Fuel Refunds through SCDOR monthly.
  • Reconciles credit card transactions and confirms completion of required documentation every month.
  • Manages the counting of fare revenue and the preparation for bank deposit.
  • Assists in the review of new GASB pronouncements and the implementation of new requirements.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) in accounting from an accredited fouryear college or university and five years' experience in finance in a public agency or governmental entity.
  • Corresponding years of experience may be considered as substitute for the level of education desired.

    SC State Retirement and Health benefits: PDRTA covers 100% of the employee premium for eligible health insurance coverage. This employer-paid amount is also applied as a discount toward any additional premiums, including dependent coverage. PDRTA provides $30,000 in Optional Life Insurance coverage at no cost, employees may also elect additional Optional Life Insurance coverage up to three (3) times their annual salary. Additional benefits include vision plan, dental insurance, long-term disability, and optional life insurance. Employees have access to a free Employee Assistance Program, which includes free counseling and life management services. Full-time employees are eligible for holiday pay, annual leave, sick leave, personal days, floating holidays, and community service leave.

    Must pass a criminal background check and receive a negative result from a non-DOT pre-employment drug screen.
