What is an account intern?

Account interns are entry-level professionals who assist account managers or account executives in managing client relationships within an organization, typically in advertising, marketing, or public relations firms. Their responsibilities may include conducting research, preparing client presentations, coordinating meetings, and supporting communication between clients and internal teams. Account interns gain hands-on experience in client services, project management, and industry-specific practices, making this role an excellent stepping stone for a career in account management.

What types of projects and tasks can an account intern expect to work on during their internship?

As an Account Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of tasks that support the account management team, such as assisting with client communications, preparing presentations, conducting market research, and helping to coordinate meetings or campaign deliverables. You'll often collaborate closely with account executives, creatives, and other departments to ensure client needs are met. Interns frequently have the opportunity to observe client meetings and gain insight into campaign strategy and project management, making this role a valuable learning experience for those interested in client services or advertising.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Intern, you need a solid grasp of basic accounting principles, data entry skills, and often a related degree or coursework in accounting or finance. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Excel, and ERP systems is typically expected. Attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are vital for accurately supporting the accounting team, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the overall efficiency of financial operations.
