Job description

Under the direction of a pharmacist, receives practical training towards becoming a competent pharmacist to ensure the appropriate selection, dosing, administration, and dispensing of medication orders.

Serving the needs of Garfield Heights and the Southeast communities of Cuyahoga County, Marymount Hospital is an acute care, faith-based hospital. The Pharmacy Intern role is based on the first floor of Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital, a community-focused hospital with a unique patient population and a strong behavioral health presence, offering valuable exposure to psychiatric medications and personalized patient care. The pharmacy team includes approximately 36 caregivers, and the intern works closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, nurses, providers, patients, and occasionally respiratory therapy, within a collaborative environment where learning opportunities are constant and relationships are easily built. Responsibilities include supporting carousel operations, triaging phone calls and nursing requests, prepacking medications, returning stock, inventory management and cycle counts, and participating in bedside and outpatient medication delivery programs. Interns also assist with clinical activities such as patient education, medication histories, and medication list reconciliation, with opportunities to participate in care planning and other advanced responsibilities based on comfort level, making this an ideal role for pharmacy students seeking hands-on experience in a supportive, team-oriented setting.

A caregiver in this position will work every third weekend during the school year (Saturday and Sunday), rotating between first and second shift, with additional hours available for those interested in picking up extra shifts. There are no on-call, float, or holiday requirements. During the summer, there is no required schedule, though interns are encouraged and welcome to work additional hours if interested.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Review and assess medication orders toidentify, prevent, and resolve potential and actual drug related issues.

  • Recommend formulary alternatives whenappropriate.

  • Compound and prepare medications for delivery to patient care areas.

  • Providedruginformation and education to medical staff and patients.

  • Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary tofacilitatecare.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy Program meeting education requirements to qualify for an Intern License in the State of Ohio OR international pharmacy experience meeting the requirements to qualify for the Foreign Graduate Pharmacy Intern License

  • Current State Board of Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT) before hire

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform functions of the job while reaching and stretching, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $23.00

Maximum hourly: $23.00
