The Head of Healthworx Accelerator role is essential in defining the strategy, engaging across the healthcare innovation ecosystem, facilitating seamless operations, offering unwavering support to participants, and building and crafting engaging resources to help start-ups scale meaningfully in the complex world of healthcare. The Head of Healthworx Accelerator contributes to a dynamic ecosystem where innovation flourishes, engaging various stakeholders to shape a brighter future for healthcare innovation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision, goals, and operating model for the Healthworx Accelerator
  • Identify innovation priorities and thematic focus areas aligned with CareFirsts strategic pillars as well as market and industry trends.
  • Establish program KPIs, success metrics, reporting frameworks, and impact measurement methodologies.
  • Serve as the executive leader and primary spokesperson for the accelerator internally and externally.

Ecosystem & Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships across the innovation ecosystem, including venture capital firms, universities, health systems, incubators, advisors and industry partners.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that enhance program capabilities, visibility, and market access.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, pitch competitions, and innovation forums.
  • Foster collaboration between startups and internal CareFirst leaders to drive strategic alignment and adoption opportunities.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Develop and manage program budget, sponsorships, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee Accelerator operations, contracts, and program logistics.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Build CareFirst Relationships       

  • Build trusted relationships within CareFirst to deepen subject-matter expertise, find opportunities to synchronize with core operations align with strategic priorities, and ensure close       coordination with the central team in the execution of their areas of responsibility within the division. Infuse innovative models and solutions into the health plan.      

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Experience: 10 years experience in business development, operational technology support, general business operations and/or consulting experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on start-up and payer partnerships or collaborations, and a deep network with other payers.
  • Experience working at an accelerator, investor, venture studio, or other supporter of early start-ups.
  • Experience working directly for a healthcare start-up in a strategic or partnership capacity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Collaborator who builds trusting relationships and drives engagement and decisions across multiple levels and stakeholders, including start-ups, corporates, non-profits, investors, etc.
  • Strategic-thinker who gets to the root of the problem and potential solutions to any challenge.
  • Project management skills to drive projects forward in both corporate and start-up environments, and ideally interface between the two.
  • Health care expertise to quickly understand and pinpoint opportunities and risks in healthcare business models.
  • Executive communicator who can develop trusting and respectful relationships with leaders of both start-ups and health plans, especially in board environments.
  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.

Salary Range: 128,800 - 230,230
