Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
The Senior Associate Athletic Director of Marketing and Content serves as the executive leader of all marketing, content, creative services, and production functions for Carolina Athletics. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, and a member of the executive leadership team, this role is responsible for transforming the department into a content-driven, brand forward, fan-centric, and revenue-generating media enterprise. 
This position will oversee a fully integrated organization spanning marketing, original content, creative, broadcast production, and social/digital strategy, operating as a modern in-house content studio that produces, distributes, and monetizes storytelling at scale. This role will drive brand growth, fan engagement, and revenue generation while elevating the national presence of Carolina Athletics.
This position works in close partnership with the Senior Associate AD of Strategic Communications and Chief Revenue Officer[SD3.1][NS3.2] for Carolina Athletics, ensuring alignment between storytelling, messaging, reputation management, and revenue generation. Both the Senior Associate AD of Marketing and Content and Senior Associate AD of Strategic Communications share dotted line reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications.
This position will lead and integrate the following Athletics areas: 
* Marketing & Fan Engagement 
* Content Strategy & Original Content 
* Creative Services (design, brand, storytelling) [SD4.1]
* GoHeels Productions / Broadcast / ACC Network content 
* Digital & Social Media Strategy 
* Game Presentation & In-Venue Experience 
These units currently support 28 varsity programs, 200+ annual events, and more than 75 social and digital platforms, and include approximately 40 full-time staff plus additional temporary and student personnel.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's or Bachelor's and 0-2 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
Experience: 10+ years [SD6.1] progressive leadership experience in marketing, media, content, or brand strategy. Demonstrated success leading large, cross-functional teams in complex organizations. Experience in collegiate athletics, professional sports, media, or entertainment environments preferred.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proven expertise building and scaling integrated media, content, and production organizations across broadcast, social/digital, and sports ecosystems. Strong creative and strategic ability to elevate brand, execute multi-channel marketing, and drive audience growth through compelling storytelling. Demonstrated success monetizing content, developing new revenue streams, and aligning marketing strategy with business objectives. Skilled in leading complex production environments while leveraging data, analytics, and performance insights to guide decisions and measure impact. Forward-thinking and entrepreneurial leader with deep college athletics knowledge and the ability to align campus, athletics, and external stakeholders around evolving media and fan engagement opportunities.
