Job description
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $100,000 to $110,000. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY
At the direction of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean is responsible for assisting and facilitating the communication, administration, delivery, and operational controls of all campus educational activities, consistent with the CIA’s educational mission and core values of excellence, professionalism, ethics, and respect for diversity.
The Assistant Dean contributes to the overall success of the Greystone campus and participates as a member of the campus’ Academic Affairs leadership team, managing and supporting the smooth functioning of Greystone degree programs delivery. This position acts as a direct supervisor for select full-time and adjunct faculty, evaluating teaching activities and supporting faculty growth and development. The Assistant Dean is also responsible for monitoring procedures to ensure full compliance with the Institute’s academic and employee policies, and compliance with external accreditors and state higher education authorities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the Greystone Associate Dean of Academic Affairs:
- Assists in the day-to-day management of full-time, adjunct, and visiting faculty in all degree and certificate programs.
- Hires and provides direct supervision to a assigned full-time and adjunct faculty of the campus.
- Helps coordinate the efficient scheduling of faculty and courses. Schedules all faculty and adjuncts to ensure coverage for all classes. Working with the Registrar, plans and projects class schedules and faculty assignments in advance for all programs each academic year.
- Monitors and evaluates classrooms and labs for functional issues. Works with the facilities department to correct any issues and the Safety Manager to ensure OSHA compliance.
- Stays apprised of any changes and/or updates to the college/educational initiatives and implements these updates where appropriate.
- Meets with students to discuss problems or complaints and assists in devising equitable responses and solutions according to policy utilizing appropriate Institute resources.
- Participates as an effective spokesperson for the CIA and its educational programs to students, guests, and other visitors to the Greystone campus.
- Helps to create on-the-fly coverage plan(s) when faculty call-out to ensure continuity of instruction and reduce the likelihood of having to cancel classes.
- Assists with graduation protocol and development of menus prepared by 4th term students, including execution of the event.
- Assists with managing the hiring process for Earn and Learn students within Greystone education, including but not limited to reviewing eligible applications, arranging interviews with faculty, reviewing and approving error-free time sheets, and working with faculty to complete all assessments in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with the campus Assessment Coordinator to ensure the timely and accurate execution of assessments and collection of assessment data.
- Monitors expenses to hit the Greystone Education department’s financial targets. Participates in counting, compiling, and submitting quarterly and annual inventories.
- Collaborates with faculty and adjuncts to support student retention and persistence, participates in progress report meetings, and collaborates with faculty when an “at risk” student is identified.
- Works with Greystone Purchasing Manager regarding cost control and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with dress code, proper hygiene and sanitation are upheld in all classrooms and labs.
- Organizes testing, evaluation and score compilation of potential full time and adjunct faculty in accordance with Institute policies and procedures.
- Provides technological leadership and disseminates understanding of the use of technology and other tools which support faculty, students, and the Greystone Academic Affairs administration.
- Encourages and supports the integration of instructional technology into the curriculum i.e., on-line instruction, interactive video, flipped classroom etc.
- Guides and assists faculty with development of print and digital educational materials in accordance with CIA content and style standards.
- Oversees, monitors, and ensures the input of error-free bi-weekly payroll, the payment of stipends, scheduling of personal, sick and vacation time for faculty, overtime assignments, adjunct rates, and payments.
- Acts as a liaison between Human Resources and Faculty, fielding questions and providing timely answers.
- Ensures that students have the large equipment and small hand-tools they need and in sufficient supply in lab classes.
- Maximizes the use of Gift-in-Kind equipment and products to reduce overall costs to the organization.
- Monitors the aesthetic impact of the operation, classrooms, labs, and all educational spaces.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate degree in a food-related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of two (2) years of successful administrative experience in an educational or related environment.
- A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated teaching experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a food-related or educational field.
- Pro Chef III, CMC, CMPC, CMB desired.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Demonstrates exceptional communication and organizational skills, sharp attention to detail, a broad-based knowledge of CIA programs, services, and facilities.
- Excellent written and verbal and presentation skills; documented or demonstrated skills or experiences which verify professional communication ability.
- Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite product, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Technological Proficiency: Knowledge of and evidence of ability to provide leadership for the use of technology in the classroom and for office and management tasks.
- Culinary Institute Mission: Knowledge of, or commitment to learn, the unique mission(s) of the CIA and its place in higher education and the culinary industry.
- Learning Theory and Practice: Knowledge of, or commitment to learn and use, concepts and practices promoting effective teaching and learning.
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive issues with confidentiality and discretion.
- Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

WORKING CONDITIONS
