Understanding these differences helps parents and job seekers find the right fit for their needs and qualifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Childcare Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Childcare Worker, you need a fundamental understanding of child development, safety protocols, and usually a high school diploma or relevant early childhood education certification. Familiarity with child care management software, first aid/CPR certification, and state licensing requirements is often necessary. Job description

Part-Time Childcare Caregiver / Teacher Assistant

ABC Lighthouse Childcare Center is seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic Part-Time Childcare Caregiver to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children, enjoys being part of a collaborative team, and is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children from infancy through school age.

Job Responsibilities

As a Part-Time Childcare Caregiver, you will be responsible for the daily care, supervision, and development of children while ensuring the health, safety, and cleanliness of the center. This position requires flexibility and a team-oriented attitude, as every staff member contributes to the overall success of the center.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Supervise and actively engage children in age-appropriate educational, recreational, and social activities.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and sanitary classroom and learning environment throughout the day.
  • Assist with lesson implementation, arts and crafts, reading, outdoor play, and daily routines.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks while following all CACFP, health, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist with diapering, potty training, handwashing, and other personal care needs as appropriate for each age group.
  • Complete classroom cleaning, sanitizing, laundry, and end-of-day closing duties as assigned.
  • Transport children safely to and from local schools and approved field trips using company vehicles when assigned, including supervising children during loading, unloading, and transportation.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, children, coworkers, and management.
  • Follow all Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards and ABC Lighthouse Childcare Center policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and classroom documentation as required.
  • Support other classrooms and assist with additional duties as needed to ensure the center operates efficiently.
Team Expectations

At ABC Lighthouse Childcare Center, we believe in a "One Team, One Mission" approach. Every employee is expected to contribute to maintaining a high-quality childcare environment. All team members share responsibility for cleaning and sanitizing the facility, assisting with food preparation and meal service, and supporting transportation duties when assigned. No task is considered "someone else's job"—we work together to provide exceptional care for every child and family we serve.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Childcare experience preferred (willing to train the right candidate).
  • Reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain active throughout the workday.
  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine love for children.

If you're dependable, energetic, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children, we'd love to have you join the ABC Lighthouse Childcare Center family!
