Your role and responsibilities

The Principal Technical Consultant - On-Site Resident role is a technical leadership position within ABB's Process Automation division, primarily focused on delivering on-site technical support, advisory services, and consulting expertise at high-stake customer sites on a rotating resident basis. The position involves managing Distributed Control Systems (DCS), particularly ABB 800xA, AC800M, and AC800M HI platforms, providing technical account management, and supporting project engineering as a subject matter expert (SME) between rotations. The role ensures customers receive world-class technical support, system optimization, and advisory services while maintaining ABB's high standards for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

This role is contributing to the Automation Energy Industries operations in the US.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Leading alignment and development of consultancy products and services to meet customer needs; negotiating contracts and leading sales activities with multiple local units to win major consulting assignments.
  • Leading customer discussions, preparation of technical proposals, techno-commercial negotiations, co-creation workshops with customers, technical guidance for the customer, etc.
  • Forming and leading teams to deliver assignments with a focus on operational execution.
  • Overseeing and delivering challenging and major assignments.

Qualifications for the role

  • Minimum 8+ years of engineering experience related to Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with ABB 800xA, AC800M, or AC800M HI systems in maintenance, commissioning, and on-site support roles
  • Demonstrated experience in technical account management or customer-facing technical roles
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple customer sites/relationships simultaneously
  • Previous experience in field service, on-site engineering support, or resident engineer assignments
  • Ability to travel up to 75-80%
  • Applicants should possess a work authorization that would allow them to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship
