Job Title: Permanent Pathologist Assistant

Location: Newburgh, NY 12550

Shift: Per Diem

Job Summary: Under the supervision and direction of the Medical Director of the Laboratory and/or other licensed Pathologist, the Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) prepares and performs the gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens. 

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares tissue for pathological tests including frozen section diagnosis, cytology specimens, muscle biopsies, ACE specimens, and renal biopsies.
  • Photographs gross and microscopic specimens and assists in preparation of educational conferences.
  • Performs postmortem examinations (<5 year). Addresses daily QAs and monthly QA Reports.
  • Assist with gross description, dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissue for processing.
  • Obtain biological specimens for analysis and perform special procedures. 

Education/Training - Bachelor’s Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program; Master of Health Science from a NAACLS Pathologists' Assistant Program preferred

Experience: Previous related experience including surgical pathology, autopsy dissection, histology procedures/techniques, gross dissection of surgical specimens, frozen sections and post-mortem examinations, preferred. Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently required.

Licensure: NYS pathology assistant license required.  AAPA fellowship or ASCP certification required.
