Summary:

D’Youville University's College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM) seeks a dedicated Career Advisor to guide medical students through their professional journey—from early specialty exploration to successful residency placement. This role is vital in helping students navigate the complex transition from undergraduate medical education to graduate medical education (GME), ensuring they are competitive candidates for the National Resident Matching Program (The Match).

This position is available as either part-time or full-time.

Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Career Strategy: Conduct one-on-one sessions to help students identify career interests, assess competitiveness for specific specialties, and develop individualized action plans.
  • Residency Application Support: Guide students through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the residency match process. Assist in crafting personal statements and letters of intent.
  • MSPE Coordination: Collaborate with leadership to prepare the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), ensuring it adheres to AACOM and AAMC guidelines.
  • Workshop Development: Design and lead workshops on resume/CV building, networking, Letters of Recommendation (LOR), and high-stakes interviewing skills specifically for medical residencies.
  • Clinical Rotation Planning: Advise second-year students on planning elective clinical rotations that align with their specialty interests.
  • Professional Networking: Build relationships with Residency Program Directors and mentors to enhance resources for DYU-COM students.
  • Crisis & Transition Support: Provide guidance for students during stressful transitions, including support for those who are unmatched through the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of directly related experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in academic advising, student services, or career coaching within a higher education or medical school setting is highly desirable.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with medical education milestones (COMLEX-USA exams), AAMC "Careers in Medicine" tools, and residency match software (ERAS/NRMP).
  • Exceptional communication and listening skills, with a compassionate approach to supporting students in high-stress environments.

Pay: $42,000 - $45,000 Annually
